First, I'm not a fan of Oli's based on past seasons, his history of changing lineups, and his pitching moves. Still, he is improving and, to this point this season, I'd suggest that he is doing a fairly good job. Don't forget that a Manager is as strong as his assistants and, naturally, the advice he decides to use or reject. I think in that regard, he is using that information better. The season is a long one but, at this point, I'd consider myself moving toward being supportive of him. JMHO!
BTW, Oli is in a position where criticism comes as a part of the job. He's a big boy and should be able to take it. I appreciate those who disagree with Oli's moves when they take the time to explain their positions.

Re: The whining about Oli
While some posters have firm opinions on Oli questioning his ability as a manager, I am writing this as not a pro or con on Marmol but as a hypothetical. Say. Marmol was not given that extension and was a free agent at the end of 2026 , what interest would other GM’s have in hiring him ? None ? Some? A lot?
Things listed on Oli’s resume :
Experience: 5 years MLB managing.. mid tier as quite a few managers have little to no experience recently hired
Hired as youngest manager in MLB .. Turned 40 in July 2026
W-L : in first 4 years have a winning record !
Note: if he is better than 81-81 this year will retain winning record for 5 years
Playoffs: Team won 93 games and made wildcard spot
In 2026, managed the team with 2nd youngest position starters in MLB ..25.8 yrs old (only Nationals younger)
Coaching assts. Have staff that works well with young players including Jon Jay, Daniel Descalso , Yadier Molina
Motivation: Resilient young players , win or lose who play hard even when trailing in games. Instilled a ‘never quit mindset’ as shown with many come from behind victories

Yes, me too. I would probably have let Libby go back out there (with someone warming up) and yanked him if he allowed a base runner. If he rolls, then you only have to cover 2 innings with the pen. Maybe Libby said he was done, but I doubt it. Anyway, the other thing I would have done differently, was after Winn tried to sac bunt on the first pitch.. The infielders were almost in the batter's box! I would have had Winn try the butcher boy on the next pitch. If he hits it on the ground it would take a killer play for one of the corner IFers to make a play. Anyway, Oli did fine last night. Just what I would have done.... Now you can all whine about me....Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑08 May 2026 08:50 am I was impressed last night with oli I was thinking with the lead he would go to stank or briuhl to give up a couple of runs but he didn’t I hope he keeps it up

I would have liked to have seen Molina named manager, but to this point in the season Oli and his staff are doing a lot of good things. Only a couple of times could I question a lineup or a pitching move.

If you can only complain a couple times, they would indeed be doing some good things.

Yea i didnt like the bunt either he should have put the hit and run on winn goes the other way and makes decent contact didnt like the bunt they knew it was coming and were clearly ready for it it would have had to have been an absolutely perfect bunt to be successful. At least it didn’t come back to bite thembccardsfan wrote: ↑08 May 2026 10:25 amYes, me too. To say that Oli blew the 3-run lead is bordering on moronic. No, it is moronic.
I think Oli is below average but he was solid today.
Hindsight ALWAYS being 20/20 of course:
*If he leaves Libby in for the 7th and he basically does what Stanek did you STILL have the same scenario in the 8th with Romero!
*HR from Alvarez(the guy is a beast!)
*Single from Altuve(another big bat!)
*Tough BB 10 pitch AB from the cleanup hitter.
*Correct move at that point going to O’Brien and a bit of a tough break on where the ball landed.
The only move/non-move I questioned was not batting for Pages with someone(Saggese??) who might have been a better bunter after the Fermin double?
But the infatuation with him, and the contention that he loses games while the players win them, is silly.
He’s not “awful” or “terrible” but below average at best.
So...you don’t replace him unless you have found someone who is clearly better.
I’m rooting for him though and not looking to pile on him on some do on this forum.
For what it’s worth I do remember wanting them to hire Skip Schumaker(sp?) instead but that time has passed.
Have a good night!

Re: The whining about Oli
A big part of keeping him on was the age of this club and his mentoring ability.ClassicO wrote: ↑14 Apr 2026 15:59 pm He's signed through the 2028 season, with a club option for the 2029 season.
The constant complaining by some adds nothing. If Bloom thinks he screws up in the next 3-4 years, he's gone. And Bloom controls the roster.
A modern baseball manager may win or lose the team 3-4 games in any year. You'd think it was 15 games based on the incessant whining by some.
And BTW - those games won't move the needle for this team.
Seems to be working as he learns the many aspects of managing.

Re: The whining about Oli
Do you really think in the below average case of Oli Marmol these posters are thinking of the true sense of "below average"? I disagree with that assumption because the same group have placed him at the top of their list since he was given the job. Even when GM Mo was clearly the one giving him the roster that was clearly one of the least performing teams in the league and the expectations never changed, WS or Bust he had to deal with it as is. Somehow he got blamed for not reaching the WSCusecards wrote: ↑08 May 2026 13:35 pmLOL...”below average” does not translate to “incompetent”.LCA1951 wrote: ↑08 May 2026 08:07 amStop lying.
