as well as there hasn't been anything stating he doesn't have the ability to a 2c. I would like us to get someone to fill in for another year or possibly 2 so he can develop on the third line with a few young guys as well. Him, Carbonneau, and Stenberg would be a pretty dynamic and defensively responsible 3rd line that in 2 seasons would be an incredibly dynamic and defensively responsible 2nd line. I could easily see that line put up 150+ points or so combined while all being on the plus side in a few seasons.
Agree. Way to soon to think Dvo can't develop into our 2C. I wouldn't close that book until he's probably 24. That being said, I'd still like to add another legit C prospect that has 2C potential. If in 2-3 years we have three good C's that's not a problem I would crying about. What would be bad is that Dvo develops into only a 3C and we have no solution to center that 2nd line.
Agreed. If he is available Hischier is absolutely a play the Blues should make.
How do you deal with him only being signed for 2 years?
You have a season to essentially negotiate and find out if he wants to stay. If he doesn't then you trade him at the draft next season, but odds are, based on history, we generally get the players we intend to keep extended.
Little risky for me in our current situation.
Depends on what we send. If it's something like Dvorsky, a 1st (#15) and a top prospect, then no I'm likely out.
If it's Kyou, #15, and a mid tier I have no problem pulling that trigger.
agreed, its like BT IMO though and probably makes more sense for another team closer to contending to take that risk/outbid us.
The thing is though if you wait too long and pass up on really good players who can help get you there those players may not be available when you are ready.
Yes I know there are always players available, but they could very well be lesser players or maybe at that point you don't have the cap room and salaries have escalated past a puke point.
Sometimes even if the team may not 100% fully be there, you get the player/s that help you get really close and speed things up ala Broberg and Holloway.

I would agree IF it was an ideal scenario contract wise but its not.

Hischier is ideal however as he has one season left. The only thing being is that if the trade would go down before the draft (which if you are talking 1st rounders it would need to) he can't extend until after July 1 so there's about a week of stress.

I could probably live with that if they agreed on a number and he signed a week after the trade.

Yeah, that’s the rub. I’d only be interested in trading for Hischier at the draft if the Devils would allow us to talk with Hischier and we’re able to come to a handshake agreement on an extension. No way would I do it without that. Good chance NJ wouldn’t agree to that though.
That said, if Hischier is traded, I bet after July 1 is more likely. Makes things easier. And I doubt NJ would be looking for 2026 draft picks as the main pieces coming back anyway so no real need for them to rush the process if trading him is really the route they want to take.

I’d give up both high firsts and one of the big defensive prospects to get Robertson at 11.5M
I 100 percent would be doing the same as well. It's a good bet Robertson is better than anyone in this draft so there's the picks in value. Defensive prospects would be hard to quantify tho. Are you talking Jiricek Lindstein or LM? Are those the big defensive prospects?
I posted above, I think it would be hard to value Robertson under 3 1sts as he is currently more valuable than Matthews, Tkachuk etc.... But if you could lock it in for 7 years at 11.5, I'd be willing to part with a buttload. Still would have to figure out who could reasonably center Robertson and Kyrou. I guess you could stick buchy or suter in there for a year until Dvorsky is up to snuff.

I’d try real hard to protect Lindstein as much as possible. Especially at the salary we’re paying for Robertson. If they asked for Mailloux in lieu of prospects, I’d probably think real hard about it.
I WOULD offer Lukas Fisher and Quinton Burns and I love Fisher’s game.

The good thing is, despite what any Stars fan would try to convince you otherwise. They are really in a cap bind. There's no real way to get a Robertson deal done. without ditching multiple of their current players which means they are either dealing from a strength of weakness on that side, or with Robertson. You can only run the bidding war up as far as other teams are willing to bid against themselves. You could hold the Stars feet to the coals for putting themselves in this predicament if the league really wanted to.

Right. It doesn’t even have to be that way. Doug talks about hockey trades all the time. There’s one to be made here.

That is the most likely scenario but this draft is when we have the most capital and we do see a decent amount of players traded at or just before the draft so it's not unheard of.

NHL officially informs teams of the 2026-27 Salary cap and payroll range:
Floor: $76.9M
Midpoint: $90.4M
Ceiling: $104M
Maximum salary: $20.8M
Chicago is set to be $18 million under the cap floor and have been eyeing Robertson for a while...
Honestly, Chicago doesn’t have the prospect depth to be trading from right now. They also can’t really offer sheet either. I think that’s 4 or 5 first rounders.
Dallas also won’t get much if teams have to take on $20M

It looks like to get 4 1st rounders the matching offer would be 11.7m. The Hawks wouldn't be able to offer sheet another teams RFA because they have to worry about bedard is what I would assume. What I'm confused about, is why isn't Bedard locked up yet? The Blues took care of Hollywood pretty quickly. Bedard will be getting more than 9m but you would think he'd be offered by now. What's the deal with that?
I dont have a subscription.
Perhaps I was incorrect. I’ll check elsewhere but they really shouldn’t be trading from prospect depth at the moment. Robertson would help for sure. But that roster needs more help
