101 interview just now Army stated that based on the value of #11 + #15 they feel like they could move into the Top 5. My assumption is that means perhaps 2-5. You may be able to listen to the interview later on 101 Espns website.
Would you take, Stenberg, Malhotra, etc? Not sure what team would be interested maybe SJ? Would it be a larger package, i found that comment interesting
I’ll try to listen to it later but while I would also try to move up, it’ll also take a team willing to move down…and there’s just not hardly any precedence of teams going from 11 all they way up to 2 or 3. Almost everyone would take 1 elite asset over 2-3 good to very good assets.
So for all of those of you putting together packages for the 2nd overall pick (and yeah, I’m aware Grier even said he’d be open to trading it), I dare you to look for historical examples of such a trade. You’ll be disappointment with what you find unfortunately.
That said, I’d absolutely pursue moving up as well. Yeah, we could bemoan the ifs and could haves of if the Blues had just lost a couple more games down the stretch but I prefer to deal on the here and now. And for now, I’d absolutely pursue moving trying to trade up…but just wanted to note that moving up that far almost never happens.

also to add to my previous comment. The GM's all work off the same "sheet" and have a group text. They set it up so that they have a way to do business with each other. He did say it's more useful later on in the 1st so teams can see how a 1st and a 3rd can move them up like 3-4 spots depending.
the reality is it's hard to move up at the top because you have to convince a team to get off the pick. San Jose is a likely candidate that would get off their pick just due to the fact that they want the playoffs and their clear path is to figure out how to get defenders now. The defender they select at any point in the first round isn't going to help them get to the playoffs the next 2 years. A forward just makes them have a wealth of riches.
IF you think Ivar is a legit Top 6 scoring threat for instance, #11, #15, #30 for that pick, plus a prospect?
i don't think i add a prospect in. or a sub a prospect for the 30th. stenberg isn't worth 3 1sts alone, but you could make the argument to do it. Right now that question to me is always 3 1sts for brady? 3 1sts for matthews. 3 1sts for xyz. There's a lot of players you could buy with 3 1sts. There's probably a handful of 22-25 year olds who project better than stenberg or the same.

That's a lot. How about Parayko, Kyrou to Toronto? Would they still have interest in Binnington? Could sweeten that.

I agree totally with us. However, there are a few things working in our favor. The cost for veteran defense was insane 2 months ago. Bypassing that "pain" down the road would be worth a lot to a team like SJ.
he says that the sheet they have (we have posted one thats probably somewhat similar) has their calculations that the team can move up into the top 5. I believe those 2 get you as far as 3-4-5 it might just be 4-5. But it's not far from 3. He said it's still dependent on what they are interested in drafting. But he does think the top 4 picks are more fluid than previous years because there aren't consensus top picks.
Yes, I’m well aware of the historical draft pick value charts and yes, the value of those 2 picks together would be around or a bit higher than the value of 1 pick around the 4-5 range…but you need a team in that range to actually want to make such a move. My point would be that historically, there’s near zero precedence for a team being willing to move down that much.
One reason for that is it’s simply quite rare for a team to have 2 picks in the 11-15ish range. But beyond that, if you expand it to the ~ 11th pick and another asset around the same value as the 15th (and even another asset on top of that if you want), there’s still basically zero examples of a team being willing to drop down that much.

And we all know Parayko likes palm trees.
It’d be much smarter of them to just draft Chase Reid at 2 than to trade the pick with Parayko being the main piece or at least main d-man piece coming back. So we’d be hoping on them to be short-sighted and for some reason prefer the past his prime Parayko over the 18 who projects to be notably better longterm…and better aligns with the ages of their core.
SJ is already absolutely loaded at forward going forward. So I agree their target should be defense but to me, they’d be silly to see Parayko as a main piece for that…at least one that lines up well with their cadre of young forwards.

#11 + #15 I assume reality is McKenna is off the table what's your best guess Stenberg? Would ya?
YES!!!!! If we can get into #2 - 4 with our draft capital, then we absolutely should. I am really curious as to which team would be willing to trade #2 - 5 for #11, #15, and #31 (I am assuming those are the picks they are interested in). Truthfully I wouldn't be interested in trading with us if I was one of those teams. We should go there if they are willing but not for Ivar, I would go get Reid. That is the guy we need IMHO. That is the guy I want.

Well according to Eklund - the San Jose pick is already spoken for by Edmonton as part of a package including Askarov and "others" to Edmonton for McDavid.

I have no doubt that McDavid is San Jose bound eventually but I don’t think it’s happening this offseason
With a team like SJ that has 42M in cap space why not offer Kyrou, And Buch, Col 1st and anyone down on the farm not named Carbo, Stenberg. Linstein, Juricek they have the cap space and need veterans. that would leave 11 & 15 and what's left of the prospects after SJ at #2 to move up (rangers at #5) for a center Malhotra.
Now that would be a legacy last move for Army. Just a thought and a pipe dream.

I agree that they would be better to select Reid than Parayko, but I'm hoping that they want Parayko instead. Veteran defenseman can make younger players develop faster. Further, there are a lot of good defenseman in this draft, so maybe SJ would swap Chase Reid for Parayko + 2 other defenseman at 11 and 15.
There may be something cooking with SJ and maybe it involves Parayko BUT I’m definitely not doing Parayko + 11 + 15 for their #2. Like it’s been mentioned several times, there is no consensus #1 or even a #2. There just isn’t that much drop off in the top 8 or 9 guys.
If SJ wanted to do something with Parayko involving their #2, fine but I’m not throwing multiple top 15 picks + to get that done. The value at the top just isn’t worth giving up Parayko + (Belchetz + Suvato)..assumed first round picks for a Stenberg or Reid. To me, that just doesn’t make sense.
I’m disappointed that we ended up picking 11 and 15 but the Blues need more talent. If the Blues wanted to move up a couple of spots to get a Rudolph or a Smits that’s fine but this is a deep, solid draft that just doesn’t contain that high end talent worth giving up this draft plus position players to move up for.
