Prieto has been a very productive minor league hitter for quite a while

Shady, do you see that as a fair criticism of what you do? It might be a little exaggerated, but I have to agree it's tough to be impressed by a correct prediction by someone who makes 100 predictions and gets a few right.NYCardsFan wrote: ↑06 May 2026 10:28 amWhen one takes 20-30 different, often conflicting, and constantly changing positions on every player, odds are pretty good at least one of them eventually will land somewhat close to the mark.JohnnyMO wrote: ↑06 May 2026 10:20 amYou saw Burleson as a starting caliber player worth keeping when many saw him as a bench piece or trade bait at best. But my Burleson prediction was very, very good and, basically, stand alone at the time. And, I took a lot of grief for it over the years. That's what makes Burly's success so special.JohnnyMO wrote: ↑06 May 2026 10:52 amShady, do you see that as a fair criticism of what you do? Which Burleson prediction? I’ve asked you several times over the years. Most recently you did tell me 20-25 homers with a .280 average and I think agreed Hosmer was a good comp. But you’ve also said things like he would hit prime Pujols, be the next Tony Gwynn, etc. Again, if you predict 5 different things there is a good chance one will be right.

when scouting Burleson's boxscores back in 2021, he said that Burleson would make a fine 2B like Tommy Edman, that was the evening that I had to break the bad news that Burleson was Left Handed and Outweighed Tommy by 50 lbs. And that he was Athletic, b/c he pitched in College. And he would play defense like Joey Votto, and be an onbase machine.JohnnyMO wrote: ↑06 May 2026 12:39 pmShady wrote: ↑06 May 2026 11:00 amBut my Burleson prediction was very, very good and, basically, stand alone at the time. Last year he made a thread where he said he'd hit 35 HR's. No one responded, so he lowered it to 30 HR/30 Doubles...then lowered it to 25/25. And at the end...20/20

There is no need to try to defend what a creeped-out Shady freak and bald-faced liar like craviduce is probably spewing in response to me calling him out for his past poor judgement regarding Alec Burleson. I did happen to notice his lame response to my simple post, recently, about Burleson being named NL Player of the week. It showed again how messed up he is in trying to belittle me. Any honest CT poster should be able to see what he's up to.

This what is called in this internet lexicon as the "Shady Effect"! It is commonly used by Trolls when they don't get their desired need for traffic of their posts. Thus, they will readjust their posts, until the desired effect of traffic and "look at me" is accomplished. It is also utilized in making broad statements about many players, with the hope of one of their statements hitting eventually. When one of their posts do come to fruition, then the "Shady Effect" will never let other posters forget their unique foresight of their prediction. This is similiar but still different from the "Smellville Effect". The "Shady Effect" poster cannot stand being called out or disagreed with, and thus will use the "Add-Foed" feature to protect himself. The "Smellville Effect" poster will just continue to double down regardless of how much push back he receives. The "Smellville Effect" poster will also utilize his own thoughts vs. scouring the interwebs or copying other posters ideas, and trying to disguise them as their own thoughts, like the "Shady Effect" poster does. I look for these two types of "Effects" to be included in the "Internet Lexicon " at any point.craviduce wrote: ↑06 May 2026 12:46 pmwhen scouting Burleson's boxscores back in 2021, he said that Burleson would make a fine 2B like Tommy Edman, that was the evening that I had to break the bad news that Burleson was Left Handed and Outweighed Tommy by 50 lbs. NYCardsFan wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 18:01 pm For those forum members who may be unfamiliar with Shady's usual goalpost-shifting and fact-free nonsense, a brief primer:
Shady: "Burleson is the next Tony Gwynn." "Burleson is the next Joey Votto." “Burleson is a fine fielder.” “Burleson is an Edman-type player with good speed.” (Actual quotes)
CardsTalk consensus: Burleson is a one-dimensional player who could be a decent bench bat and/or role player on the low end, with a ceiling of an average-ish starter, which has value as long as he is cost-controlled/pre-arb.
Reality: At age 26, Tony Gwynn posted 6.2 fWAR, and Joey Votto posted 6.9 fWAR. By contrast, in his best season so far, Burleson is on pace for approx. 1.8-1.9 fWAR, and has averaged 0.45 fWAR/150 games played. Fangraphs defines a “role player” as 1-2 fWAR, and a “solid starter” as 2-3 fWAR. So once again, the many posters who said Burleson could be a solid role player or even an average starter were much closer to being “right” than Shady (“the next Tony Gwynn /Joey Votto”). Please keep this in mind whenever Shady gaslights the forum with another one of his dishonest victory laps.

That's fine, but I'm not a Shady hater or lying about anything so why not respond to me? If you simplify it to "Shady thought Burleson would be a good player when most others thought he didn't belong on a major league roster" you absolutely have bragging rights. You were right about that. But do you understand how much a prediction like that is diminished when you have also predicted at various points he'd be a 35 homerun hitter, a 100 RBI guy, a base stealer, etc? You were correct Burleson is a quality big leaguer. You were not correct that he was the next Tony Gwynn or Pujols or would steal 15 bags, etc etc.

Re: Prieto has been a very productive minor league hitter for quite a while
At one point, when Burleson was struggling mightily (especially vs. lefties), Shady said he would be a good "platoon player vs. RHP." And don't forget his "evolution" on Burleson's speed ("good speed" to "average speed" to "he should play 1B"), his fielding ("fine defensive outfielder" to "average defensive outfielder" to "he should play 1B"), and his power ("35 HRs" to "30 HR/30 Doubles" to "25 HR/25 Doubles" all the way down to "20 HR/20 Doubles"). He's been all over the place with his Burleson assessments. But, as Shady has informed us previously, his "evaluations" change based on "developments" (where "developments" = whatever happened in the last game).craviduce wrote: ↑06 May 2026 12:46 pmwhen scouting Burleson's boxscores back in 2021, he said that Burleson would make a fine 2B like Tommy Edman, that was the evening that I had to break the bad news that Burleson was Left Handed and Outweighed Tommy by 50 lbs.
