Trade Proposal: Stenberg for Misa

Post by hockey jedi »

I am assuming Toronto will take Gavin McKenna. If San Jose takes Ivar Stenberg, would there be a match with the Blues for Otto Stenberg if we got Misa in return? SJ might have the same impulse as we do in St. Louis hoping to keep the brothers together. We may have to provide a sweetener since Misa was the overall No. 2 pick. San Jose has good centers with Celebrini and Will Smith assuming Will Smith plays center and hasn't been moved to the wing.

San Jose isn't trading Misa, especially for another LW.
They already have Chernyshov & Eklund. Musty is still developing.
If they draft Stenberg they might move Eklund to RW
Yes, Smith has been moved to wing.

Under 24
Stenberg - Celebrini - Smith
Chernyshov - Misa - Eklund
Musty - Bystedt - Graf
Halttunen - McKinney - Lund

Celebrini, Misa, Smith, Stenberg, & Chernyshov all 21 & younger. WOW!

The Sharks major need right now and for their pipeline is RHD
You'll hear a lot about Reid being in the draft mix, especially if Vancouver wants to move up a spot to grab Stenberg.
At some point Grier has to figure out who is going to run his PP in 26-27 and for the next 10 years.
Reid is definitely more of a need than Stenberg.

If the Sharks keep the pick and I suspect they will, I don’t see them passing on Chase Reid. Pretty sure Stenberg is gonna be a Canuck.

I see it the same. They're not looking to become Toronto/Edmonton with a team that is frontloaded at forward.

And Vancouver needs a top-end D as well (they need a lot of stuff), so they may go for a D-man? But they also may hope that a Swedish connection of Stenberg with Petterson could bring Petterson back on track?
So, there is a possibility that Stenberg could drop to 4th. However, Chicago already has a few very excellent recent top-end forward picks now in their lineup, they could use another D as well and that may be more valuable to them, so Stenberg could maybe drop to 5th?
I just don't see Toronto (anybody) passing on Mckenna.
I get the Best Player Available concept... but is it really so straight forward to compare a forward with a D-man when making that categorization?
We'll see what happens. But I do believe the Blues will be picking 11th.

The Blues could offer Otto Stenberg, all their picks in the 2026 draft, and all their picks in the 2027 draft for Misa. The Sharks would still tell the Blues to go kick rocks.

Craig Button has McKenna as the best player in the draft but then mentioned last night how Toronto has been looking for that shutdown #1 dman for a long time and he mentioned that Carels is that guy they’ve been looking for.
It’s gonna be McKenna though. New management, Matthews unhappy and a small threat that he might leave and then magically the Leafs get the first overall pick. McKenna can come in and replace the mistake of letting Marner leave as soon as next year and will likely put up very good numbers in his rookie year.

I think wed do good moving Otto while he still has good value.

I'd also be surprised if San Jose kept that pick. They are loaded with talent at every position and if there was a year to move a top pick. I think this is the one.

No offense but that’s an insane proposal. We could offer 5 Otto Stenberg’s for Misa and I still bet SJ would turn that down. I really like Otto’s potential but he’s just not remotely on the same tier of prospect as Misa.

Why on earth would the Sharks make that deal? For Misa they would want Broberg. They need help on the blue line.

Here we have a cold rain of truth hitting a fan that has been sunning himself in Armstrong's rose garden far too long.
