RIP Bob Skinner

Bob Skinner has passed away. He played 2 plus seasons in St. Louis including 1964 when he won a ring with the Cardinals. He previously had played several years in Pittsburgh where he played in a few All Star games and won a ring in 1960.

I well remember him as a player.

What I remember Bob was a pretty good hitter and not so good as an outfielder. I remember a game when he was in leftfield and Harry said they need to get him out of there before he gets hurt.

Those were the days players scored off season jobs to make ends meet.
He worked the loading docks at P&G, and did a couple of other players.

I remember Bob as a Pirate. Bob Skinner was the father of catcher Joel Skinner. He and his son were only the second pair of fathers and sons who both were big league managers. Steve Carlton played with both Bob and Joel Skinner.
