There is a difference between
A) An elite NHL player
B) Selecting TOP5 in the NHL Draft

B does not GUARANTEE A.
A can be acquired without B.
The chances of acquiring A are greatly increased by B.
A brings keen advantage in Stanley Cups. It is ALMOST a requirement for the Stanley Cup Winner per history.
A brings fun and thrill to every NHL game.

The St Louis Blues are ignoring all of these facts for the sake of the cash register. Some fans care. Some don't.

Some fans know the value of Stan Musial in their life in sports. Some fans think that a roomful of Maxvilles' and McCarvers' is just the same.

We all know what the Blues approach is to build the roster, and there is VERY LITTLE CHANCE that that approach will bring HOFers to our rink. Everyone knows that. Oh sure, we may bring in a "rental Gretzky" when when team gets closer to contending for a CUP, but that's as good as it will ever get. The HOFers will be skating in the other jersey's near 100% of the time in St Louis.

That's not good enough for me, and I'm going to call it out.

So as a fan, you want to cheer for an organization who tells 23 players on a roster-hey guys go out and play your worse for the next 5 seasons. This way we can fuel my bizarre ego and absurd take on how to build a winning hockey team with top 5 selections. Then when I get my way guys, I am going to trade all of you away to surround my elite prospects with hand-selected veterans who will get my hard-ons over the hump to become a dynasty. Get the f..k out of here. Who the hell has ever built a hockey team the way you want it done and been successful? I have figured it out. We need to create a chatroom full of AI bots where you are the Supreme Leader. We can program the bots to agree with your every wish and desire and send you to Shang-Ri-La where you belong.

An example of what I'm against...
Challenging the referees to call back 3 offsides and GOALS in 1 game for shoelace infractions. In one of the last games, the Blues scored A BLATANT OBVIOUS OFFSIDES GOAL late in the game, and the opposing team didn't even care to call it back -- even though the offsides was showing on the Jumbrotron for everyone to see.

While I gladly admit Hughes is an absolute fantestical player and one of the best in the league, I just cant and wont ever be a fan of midget D, regardless of how great they are.

How many players would you rather have over this dude? I honestly don’t know that I would take anybody over him. Obviously McDavid and Nate MacK are outliers because they are dominant centers but man, I don’t think there is a player in the league that controls the game like Hughes.

No doubt, he ruled the first series. He reminded of that 1970s-1980s football with the vibrating field and the one guy you could run rough shod with the magnetic arm underneath. (Too Get X for most?)
