Walker not thinking of the mechanics in the box reminds me ..

Post by ramfandan »

of a true anecdote I posted in the recent past when talking about the 'mental approach' in sports. Just do not think .

Former top PGA champion Ben Crenshaw , who was taught by revered instructor Harvy Penick in Texas, related this in a video segment on 'The Little Red Video' instruction video.
Crenshaw said I was playing in a pro-am round . I cracked a fairway 3 wood shot about 240 really sweet. The impressed amateur playing partner looked over to Ben saying , ' Hey , Ben ! Great shot 'Tell me what you were thinking just before you hit that one.
Crenshaw thought a second replying , ' I actually wasn't thinking of anything. Just took my stance and hit it .'

Crenshaw in the video then stated , 'Isn't interesing that when we clutter our mind with all kinds of swing thoughts etc. we usually don't perform as well .
That is what Walker is doing now that Crenshaw talked about a couple decades ago .

Great example. As any golfers knows, the longer you stand over the ball, the more you think, and the more you think about what bad things can happen!

I've said many times it was Big Mac's approach. Block everything out and let your natural abilities take over. Or as Willie Mays said I see the ball I hit, they hit the ball I catch it. And tomorrow is Willie's birthday.

Yep, May 6. I read The Baseball Life of Willie Mays about half a dozen times when I was a kid. Thanks for the reminder!

Walker appears to be a good bad ball hitter. And hits it hard. Manny Sanguillen.
