A strange thought on this current Cardinal team
It was pointed out on a radio program yesterday that basically this is Mo's team developed from the minors. I thought it was an interesting thought.

The drafting/signing of most players was under MO's watch, no doubt. The 'development' has Bloom's fingerprints all over it.

Not with the current players, hopefully with the ones in the minors. I still thought it was an interesting thought and well discussed on our local ESPN 101 sports station.

I'd say definitely with the current players too. Many of those development coaches are part of spring training,OldRed wrote: ↑05 May 2026 08:05 amNot with the current players, hopefully with the ones in the minors. Bloom has been here for 2 years as well. Maybe he didn't draft most of this team, but he didn't sign/trade for expensive mediocre veteran players either.

Takes two to Tango. The former GM players. That’s step one- good procurement. Second, great development. That was missing.

Who at this point has Bloom developed on the current team? I'm hoping the future will, but still, this is Mo's team. I never thought I would being saying that.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑05 May 2026 08:15 am Takes two to Tango. The former GM players. That’s step one- good procurement. Second, great development. "This is Mo's team developed from the minors."
Disagree.
Walker turned to corner this year by ignoring what Super Slo Mo and the coaching staff ordered him to do the last couple of years.
Gorman has become the most productive 3B in MLB because Bloom finally moved N/A out of the way.
Burleson, for the first time in his career, was assured a starting role and position (last season he was the 26th man to make the roster).
McGreevy, the ace of the staff, is no longer buried behind Mikolas.
Mootbaar - Mo's love affair for the previous 4 seasons - has not taken a single 2026 PA, which automatically made the team better.
Wetherholt has seized the leadoff role - which was a long-time black hole of rotating odd fitting pieces under Super Slo Mo.
Those are the factors which have turned things around.
Mo did not develop this team.
For many years, he undermined it.

Then who drafted them? Just for once admit you are totally wrong.Melville wrote: ↑05 May 2026 08:20 am "This is Mo's team developed from the minors."

We were getting way too used to "AAA resets' from our supposed good prospects.

i listened also. the comparison of the 2011 team winning with essentially Walt's players compared to the MO/Bloom situation was a good thought

Drafting and developing are 2 very different things.
And factually, a POBO does neither.

I have no hesitation in saying I have been incorrect - in the extremely rare instances when that happens (roughly 3.49%).OldRed wrote: ↑05 May 2026 08:22 amThen who drafted them? But this is not one of them.
To claim Super Slo Mo "developed" Walker, Gorman, Burleson, and McGreevy - or that he personally drafted Wetherholt - would be counter to all available facts.

Re: A strange thought on this current Cardinal team
BUT
It was C. Bloom who made over the minor league development program after filing his report w/BDWJr.
Mo's group did an extremely poor job developing players.
All you have to do is look at J. Walker as proof that it's been Bloom and his cohorts who have turned this program around.
it's Bloom who, just listen to K. Leahy after last nights game:
"... I think I made some good adjustments of how I'm planning, game-planning ahead of time and between innings in the dugout"
That's all due to Bloom dragging the organization out of the stone age under Mo and into the analytically driven era.
I'd give Mo and his gang 25% credit, Bloom and his staff 75% credit.

Re: A strange thought on this current Cardinal team
I thought it was a good topic and worth passing along the thought to others. These were Mo's players and Bloom has given them a chance to play with the subtraction of a few highly paid players.
Others can argue all they want, but Bloom's rebuild by acquiring young talent for the minors is still to be determined. It looks good, but it takes time.
