That will happen some day. It will be an exciting outfield.
Tomorrow would be nice. Why are we carrying a MLB OF with a sub .200 BA and OBP not much better?
Obviously I don't know, but I have a theory on this. This front office is in their first season calling the shots and I think you will see 3 things different from them (at least in this stage of building the team):

1) They will put more effort (and time) into helping each player get better.
2) While they may let them play longer than you would like, they will thoroughly answer whatever questions they have and in the end will be quicker to cut bait with a player. There won't be anymore 3 year runway projects and we still don't know the answers about them.
3) A lower incidence of trading or releasing a player and watching them go elsewhere to find success.
VS2 should be in the minors trying to get better.
After last year, no one would have said Nathan Church would ever pan out. A lot of us were mad when Church made the team and Velasquez was sent down. Turns out the team was right, not the fans. Scott will get more runway until Nootbar returns. Then the Cards need to make a decision. The path of least resistance would be to install Church as the starting CF, Nootbar in LF and then send either Scott or Sagesse to Memphis. That is what I expect they will do.

I am super excited about Baez. I don't want to see him fail. Letting Nootbar play LF this year makes a lot of sense. If Baez is hitting the ccover off the ball in AAA by July then I am all for perhaps seeing him here later this summer. But if he comes up, he is going to play. If the team is still winning and in playoff contention come end of July, putting him in the line-up full time is going to be a hard decision.
Look at the sample size on Church and VS2.

Ideally.

Things could happen in the trade and/or injury world though.
What if Noot were traded at the deadline and then an injury happens.
True circumstances could definitely pop up where it happens. I don’t think bloom makes call ups out of desperation or rushes players before they are ready like bloom did. I think if that happens he would go to Torres instead of calling up Baez before he thinks he is ready but just my opinion

No attempt to argue with that. They might even have other reasons for not wanting to bring him
up.

IF he maintains doing what he has done over the last 4 weeks or even better, would it still be considered
desperation or before being ready? In that world it can be used to challenge the guy and
give he an opportunity before 2027 and other events drove the timeline.

But JJ didn’t start the season at AAA last year 8O
Which reminds me…..how is he so good not taking in the prescribed samplings of the minor league A’s that ya’ll are so confident EVERY Player requires??

It’s hard to explain the dart board ever moving with so many here attempting to make excuses for their uneducated blathering.

I’ll just throw it out there again….because I love reading the answers
Does it look like JJ NEEDED 200 AAA appearances??

He started out sucking so it’s a good thing they didn’t skip him to the majors and he’s still only batting .245 .325 with 41 strike outs in 28 games he would get eaten alive in the majors. So bloom continues being right and goldfan continues his stupidity

Yea along with Jordan Walker
Jordan Walker is doing great. What’s your point? If he wasn’t doing great people like you would be screaming for him to be in the Minors.
Walker had been sent down twice before.
You are screaming for Scott to be sent down. Lots of people were screaming for Walker to be sent down. Get it now? Bloom said clearly there was nothing to gain by sending Walker to aaa If he couldn't learn to play in the majors. There is nothing to be gained by sending Scott down. If he can't learn here they likely just move on. Just like they would have had Jordan not started getting it. And " people like me " listen to what the boss is saying. I never once said send Walker down. They aren't playing that Mo game.
You don’t know what would have happened if Walker continued to hit like he did this Spring. They would likely not have kept him here if he continued to K every AB. Plus Jordan and VS2 can’t be compared. One has major Talent potential. One can’t Throw or hit.
VS2 doesn’t belong here.

Read better. That's exactly what I said. If he hadn't improved his hitting at the ml level , they likely move on from him.

And Jordan could hit and field before he made major improvement ? And Scott has/had major talent potential. That's why they've given him the runway they have. Read this part real slow. When Noot gets back, if there hasn't been some miraculous improvement, Scott's runway is likely done. But they aren't going to send him to aaa to learn how to hit and throw. Probably 4th outfielder or traded
Where in the last year have you seen VS2 improve at all?
We aren't arguing that point. You are saying send him to aaa to learn to hit. I'm saying , again, just like Walker, there is nothing left to learn at aaa. He can either play at the ML level , or he can't. The Cardinals think enough of his talent to have given him this opportunity. But he doesn't appear to be able to adapt to ml pitching well enough to be an everyday player. It looks like he will hang on for awhile as a 4th outfielder or be traded. Now, watch them send him to Memphis after all that. But that's the vibe that's consistently come from Bloom

We'll never know if he "needed" it. What we do know is that it didnt hurt him.
As far as the team goes, he was adding nothing last year. This year, coming up to a fresh, young team, the timing just seemed perfect.
Personally, I also think JB could add the same thing at some point this season. The only difference is, he may not be gaurenteed a lions share of the starts that JJW has gotten.

I don't get how someone can judge every single minor leaguer under 1 single parameter.

Excuse my choice of words, but this definition is fitting, even if the word is "taboo"....but it's IGNORANT. Ill informed.

None of these guys are the same, none of their progression is the same.

I agree with that. I think the sole purpose of sending VS to AAA is to make room for a better player. Unlikely that if he cant hit major league pitching, practicing at the AAA level may not help.

Compare it to sending a college player back to high school to improve their hitting skills. The problem with VS is that he skipped high school (AAA) so they never even knew if he could hit at that level.

Your argument is ludicrous. VS2 is a .210 AAA hitter. He never has learned how to hit. Why have the majors at all? Just bring everybody up. I’ll bet you also argue on occasion to not bring up players too soon. One has major talent potential and one does not. By your line of thinking nobody should ever get sent down.

I say send them to the Minors because if I said, cut him, he’d really go off the deep end. He’s not a mlb talent. You’ll see.

Scott hit .210 in AAA.

Excuse my choice of words, but this definition is fitting, even if the word is "taboo"....but it's IGNORANT. Ill informed.

None of these guys are the same, none of their progression is the same.

Bingo…..and should VSII be starting games in STL over some options at Memphis?? AND IF those options in Memphis do get called up and then need to go back down……so what…..won’t be the first time and won’t be the last time. It’s a rebuilding year.
VSII is hitting .167…..167

No...No....and tomorrow...NO

you can address it in July at the draft, and a few weeks later at trade time. Find me a better option than VS2, outside of Church in the org...not someone who will eventually be better, but someone now?

I'm all for getting rid of VS2 in some form or another...but there's really no need right now. Sending him to Memphis is useless...unless you can find me someone who can do better at this very moment.
