Such a visceral, tense, trip of a movie, with some stunning imagery and an incredible sound design featuring thumping, dance music. The story of a man and his young son who travel through the Moroccan desert with some rave-goers to find his missing daughter.

Recommend checking this one out and going in spoiler-free as there are a few "oh shoot" moments. Definitely in my top 10 of the year.

I kinda hated this, but take it with a grain of salt... if I had known more about it I probably wouldn't have even watched.
Going in knowing nothing beyond "father seeks daughter in Moroccan desert of raves," i found the shocking turn this took a little over halfway through to be pretty cheap and frustrating. Even with that though, this could have been a satisfying meditation on grief and family.
But then the subsequent shocks happened, and they were just sadistic.
This film spent the first half pretending to be a serious exploration of a father's care for his children, and then pulled the rug out in a truly outrageous way to be just a nihilistic psychological horror flick.
Cinematography, sound design and acting were superb though.

Yeah, I'm not one for slow cinema, so this didn't much do it for me. And I'm a bit put off by how many critics pretend this whole movie was just riveting, when we all know they were bored, too.3dender wrote: ↑29 Apr 2026 20:38 pm I kinda hated this, but take it with a grain of salt... if I had known more about it I probably wouldn't have even watched.

I'm very glad I stuck it out to the second half, though.
The most terrifying scene of the year is just a guy walking. That's a pretty neat trick.

I should have said: I'm a bit put off by how many critics pretend this whole movie was just riveting, when we all know they were bored for the first half.
I didn't mean to take shots at Todd or people who liked the movie. But I doubt anyone would watch the first half of this movie and be dying to know where it goes next (unless you've already heard something interesting is going to happen). I think with a movie like this, you're going to leave only remembering the stuff that happened in the back end, and not remembering what a slog it was at the beginning.

Actually I watched it at all bc I thought it was mostly gonna be just the 1st half of the movie, I was all about that part. I acknowledge I have weird taste though...Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑29 Apr 2026 22:11 pm I should have said: I'm a bit put off by how many critics pretend this whole movie was just riveting, when we all know they were bored for the first half.
