Some Pen stats thru 31 games
Good morning.
The Pen. We could have 20 wins. The pen.
Innings- 128 ish.
Innings scored upon- 40
Runs- 82
Multi run inning- 22
One run inning- 18
The allow a score every 3.3 innings. So every single game the pen will allow a scoring inning. Every three games, they will allow two scoring innings.
In these scoring innings, half the time- one run. The other half- multi run. That’s correct.
Every game the pen will give up a score; and every other game, it will be multi runs, and every third game, multiple scoring innings.
Our staff could hurl quality starts, never get a decision.
I’m not smart enough, but I’d bet the runs allowed are heavy towards three pitchers. That greatly skewing the numbers/

This next series will be very interesting with our pen. The Dodgers dont swing outside the strike zone. The Cardinals relievers have trouble keeping it in the zone. Innings 6-9 could get very ugly.

Yea I’m nervous. I feel our starters will allow have reasonable starts- five plus innings. But as has been shown, 6-9 is a tragedy.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑01 May 2026 08:51 am This next series will be very interesting with our pen. The Dodgers dont swing outside the strike zone. The pen has some weak spots for sure but a few fairly reliable relievers. Oli has done a good job of putting weaker pitchers in spots with a lead IMO then nailing down wins with our stronger guys or using stronger to face tougher spots in the opponents line up.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑01 May 2026 08:04 am Good morning.

Do you have a stat for how many times the pen has given up the lead? That is out there somewhere in stat world I’m sure.

You won’t believe this but I go thru each boxscore. I could do what you ask, once established easy to track.Jatalk wrote: ↑01 May 2026 08:58 amThe pen has some weak spots for sure but a few fairly reliable relievers. Re: Some Pen stats thru 31 games
Memphis has better options than the 2 worst in the current STL pen. Not a difficult 40-man situation either. DFA Stanek and Bruihl. Maybe swap Svanson, though he might warrant a longer look.
Last 2.5 + this season ERA’s:
Stanek 5.40 ERA. He’s not going to get better
Bruihl 6.54. Mikolas of the bullpen
What are they even doing in the bigs right now? What sense does it make to let a couple veterans constantly derail the young players efforts, to include a potential run at a playoff berth. Nothing better for next-level development than postseason experience for this young team.
To those who would respond with the “we aren’t supposed to compete this year” argument, save it, because players apparently didn’t get the memo.
Should they be purposely derailed for learning fast and overachieving?

I am - a not supposed to compete guy. What has happened is, the spirit of youth is back, and has been severely missing. You just can replace existing exhuburance.
The rebuild is going well, maybe better than even the org projected. A smart org stays the course while constantly reaping incremental success along the way.
I would add more youth before an aging vet.

Yep, time to double down on the youth. No sense in supplementing with bottom-tier veterans, and no upper-tier are available so no other logical choice if they want to improve. As good as things are going, it can be even better.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑01 May 2026 09:14 amYou’re a strong writer. Poor performing veterans aren’t likely to make good mentors either. Urias, Stanek, Bruihl serving no purpose whatsoever other than dragging the team down.
And thanks for the kind words, but it’s probably your engaging topics more than my writing. My threads rarely gain any traction lol!

Yea. The bad mentor comment is huge. Nothing worse than a sulking star. Mood in the room darkens. Players with draw.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑01 May 2026 09:35 amYep, time to double down on the youth. Not youth. Too young to know.
As for topics- I’m fairly benign. I’ve learned a few tricks- there are sets of posters who frequents the site. Gotta figure out their timing.
Next. I never topic up during the GDT. I just participate. No one sees your topic during GDT. You lower your participation pool.
And finally your topics are fine.

As everyone is saying
Bringing these bums in the game is much more effective than letting the SP eat…..this is the way of baseball today….you just don’t understand

Optimistic on Soriano & Graceffo.
Starting to see a ray of light on Svanson?
Second lefty?(Shuster/Bruihl) no clue?
Hold your breath(Full Pack)
Mid season?- Leahy to the BP and/or AAA call up???

Hard to say on Leahy. Dobbins is far from Leahy’s status. So Leahy stays. Maybe Dovbins to the pen.
