Did Oli win the game?
It’s like saying he would have lost it. No one knows.
People were ranting about taking Jojo out of the game after he faced six batters with four outs, a hit and a walk. Can anyone tell me when he’s gone more than that in the past couple of years?
People are raging about taking out McGreevy even though his velocity on fastballs and sinkers is down over 2mph - and where is the guarantee he would have thrown a shutout (after 150 pitches).
It’s humorous.
I may not like Oli, but I’m not not naive enough to think he controls most of the games’ results.

Let’s see, McGreevy pitching well, takes him out after 5 innings, 87 pitches.
Brings in Soriano, walks 1st batter, but then lights out! Takes him out after 1inning.
Brings in JoJo he also walks his 1st batter, but gets a DP and sets them down 1,2,3.
Faces 1 batter in the next inning, and with at least 4 lefty hitters coming up next, he brings in Stanek!
And you don’t blame Oli?
OK……..
Gee, its almost like they have another game tomorrow. Maybe oli wants to use those guys again! But lets go with your logic and pitch JoJo 40+ tonight so he's unavailable until Saturday.

Critiquing the Manager is a time honored part of MLB going back decades.

I'm not an Oli fan, nor will I curtail my opinions when he screws up.

I'm a big fan of the original poster CO, one of the smartest baseball posters in here.

But I can't go along w/this one.

To me it's not "whining", all Managers are fair game for second guessing and they understand this.

Did you actually BOTHER to read my posts during the game last night????
My criticism of Oli was to use Stanek in the 7th(bottom of the order!) and JoJo in the 8th(top of the order!).
Oli did the opposite.
You’ve been called out by numerous posters for being too lazy to do intelligent research before babbling away.
You could at least READ actual comments before your whining and crying sets in!
So where were you last night during the rally?? 😢

Good news though:
I sent your “Walker Hitting Analysis” to MLB Network.
Should hear back soon!!!

No one here dares to answer the question I posed -- how many games - net - does a manager win or lose? Why don't you answer it?
And...
I was not surprised that Oli lifted JoJo. Nor was I when he lifted McGreevy. JoJo had gone 6 batters and Stanek had numbers with JR (0-4 lifetime and JR had worse numbers batting left).
I'm as upset as anyone that Stanek has sucked, but so has most of the back end of the BP. I'm thinking Graceffo wasn't a choice since he has been used a lot and Oli later brought in the awful Svanson? Fernandez (CT would have exploded)? Bruihl? He's been awful and they wanted JR to face a righty.

So there's always 20-20 hindsight, but do people KNOW for SURE that, if these moves hadn't worked, the other moves they suggest would have? No one knows.

No it was a bad move before it was made. And okay no need to debate it anymore since you think managers are incapable of making bad moves

What I find interesting about the 2nd guessing is that fans do so without really knowing all the info that goes into the decisions.
Managers with their coaches spend hours prepping a game and having meeting on bullpen options for the day . They discuss late inning matchups of various batters. Ex. In the 8th, how would a JoJo match up with Batter X . How has that batter done previously vs JoJo ? etc.
Also , managers (along with pitchng coach , others ) know how specific relievers arms are feeling that day . If a pitcher in pen says, my arm has not fully recovered yet , the manager may not opt to use him and go with another guy. Sometimes a reliever may not feel well, nurisng a cold , etc. and manager/ coaches think we better not use him . Even ready where a better releiver was not used over a lesser guy as Better guy had overnight family issue (hospitalized child , parent ,etc ) and was on phone during his sleeping time. As fans, we don't hear about all those things and the managers will not disclose those publicly . That stays private/in house . So when fans criticize the manager , sometimes they do not know the whole story . They assume all is fine and dandy with evry player on any given day.
Then the fan goes off calling the manager a moron, stupid, clueless, etc. Yes, managers will always get 2nd guessed but sometimes unjustly .

Wow, that hurts my feelings.
Please detail exactly who you would have used last night.
Based on your logic, Oli should NEVER use Svanson, Bruihl, Stanek (or previously Pushard or Roycroft) -- because they all suck. Hmmm. That would leave him with a 4 man BP.
I'm sure if Svanson had sucked last night, you'd be screaming about him too, but since he was good, you don't question that move.

Good and fair post.
2nd guessing the manager/coaches is a long standing tradition.
Maybe it's a better tradition than drinking and smoking, as Hank Williams Jr. sung about.
Wait, how bout all 3 at the same time, while sitting around with your buddies? Maybe add some apple pie, Idk.

There's always that side of the argument as well.
