Paul - moved across the country
Liz & Derek - traveling overseas
Gaby - starting a new clinic
Alice - going to school (summer soccer training)
Sean - moved out, cooking school

Going to be interesting.

I thought last week was the season finale but the googles tell me there is one more episode. I’m only half kidding when I expect him to wake up with hookers and blow at the start of next week. Him learning of Paul handing the practice and building to Gabby was the final straw combined with everything you said and his deep sea fishing dad and dumping Colbie bc of daddy. Maybe Roy Kent will move back and make him feel better.
I fear the shark is much closer than I expect and it’s going to get jumped.

I have no idea what to make of that, but I picture them just throwing s**t at the wall in the writer's room and seeing what sticks. With Season 3 of “Shrinking” nearing its finale, co-creator Bill Lawrence is already setting expectations for what comes next. The showrunner revealed that the upcoming fourth season will mark a creative reset, introducing a fresh narrative while keeping the ensemble cast intact.
Lawrence explained that the series was originally designed around a three-season arc focusing on grief, forgiveness and moving forward. With that narrative now reaching its planned conclusion, the creative team is preparing to pivot. He described the upcoming season as “risky” and exciting, emphasizing that the shift will allow the series to explore a new direction for its characters rather than continuing the existing emotional storylines.

This was all over X this weekend and Lawerence posted quite a bit about it. Seems like whatever happens next episode will be the end of the arc. Next season same characters starting new. Maybe it involves a serious time skip. Dunno. I don’t know what to make of it either but I don’t like the sound of it.FrankTheTank wrote: ↑06 Apr 2026 13:18 pm https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/shrink ... 236708489/

Re: Shrinking S3 Trailer (and renewed for S4)
The last scene between Paul and Jimmy goes a long way toward redeeming the season, it was wonderful and Ford was great.
Other than that though, there's just an unfathomable time spent on Liz and Brian in this season (the last of which is one of the more odious people I've ever seen outside of Seinfeld/Always Sunny... like seriously how does anyone tolerate being around this guy, does anyone hang out with people like this in real life? Is it just an L.A. thing that I'll never understand?). And it felt like they speed-ran all of the other storylines.
Also, the artificiality of this friend group has become glaring. Paul is there at Alice's graduation party, but just to say goodbye and he immediately leaves right as the party gets started? Sean is hanging out with the whole group after Gaby's engagement, but then he just peaces out from the gathering without saying bye to anyone after he talks to Jimmy privately? And why was Jimmy not sitting with any of his friends/family at the graduation ceremony? Were they there? There's not even a semblance of realism or coherence going on here. The show really needs to decide whether or not it's a sitcom, it can't be both sitcom and dramedy.
And finally I absolutely hate that we're supposed to believe apparently that Jimmy was overreacting to his father being a P.O.S. Like no, he was right, his dad was terrible and it's impossible to believe Alice would just be fine with him peacing out the morning of. It feels like the show is gaslighting me about how emotions work.

Jimmy could have gone back outside and sat with everyone and had some drinks, but he stayed inside and sulked. I don't understand that, but whatever. Sean does just peace out but he said he had plans with his gf who has had like 5 lines and we were told was awful for him but guess not.
Where were they at graduation??? You can't tell me they all weren't there since they went to her soccer game and seemingly everything else in her life.
But you are right, the last scene was great, and Harrison Ford deserves an Emmy, he was fantastic all season.
Harrison Ford is coming back, BUT is it the form of flashbacks?“If [Season 4] was just a continuation of this story, it wouldn't work,” Lawrence continues. “It would feel redundant. So what we decided to do as a writing staff was put in some Easter eggs of some of the stories we're going to be telling [next season].” That means that eagle-eyed fans can start looking back over Season 3 for hints of storylines that might be picked up on in the future.
To further clarify the creative team's plans for Season 4, Lawrence draws a comparison to the upcoming fourth season of his other Apple TV hit, Ted Lasso, which premieres this summer.

I guess I completely glossed over the fact that Paul and others weren’t at her graduation? They were all at her soccer game and pretty much everything else, together all the time. It’s definitely logical that they would’ve gone, and if they did, they definitely would’ve sat together. Unless it’s one of those huge high schools where they only give out limited tickets to immediate family. That is a policy at some high school graduations.3dender wrote: ↑09 Apr 2026 07:31 am The last scene between Paul and Jimmy goes a long way toward redeeming the season, it was wonderful and Ford was great.

And how about the scene with Alice leaving at the airport? She knows her dad is going to have a tough time. so instead of having a substantive goodbye, let’s allow my irritating friend (who I just had a huge fight with) pull me away with barely giving him a hug. The show is all over the place. I get they all want Jimmy to be self-sufficient, but that’s one of those moments where you give him some time and attention.
But the scene with Jimmy and Paul, albeit unrealistic that he would fly across the country to meet for 5 minutes, was powerful.

Re: Shrinking S3 Trailer (and renewed for S4)
I thought the season overall was a B-/C+ type grade. It was good but not nearly as good as it has been. It's all over the place. Too many annoying characters, Liz and Brian in particular, getting far too much time, while the good stories get pushed to the side. Jimmy doesn't seem to have shown much growth, or I suppose is just broken bc of Tia's death. Understandable but doesn't make for great TV. And the entire thing where he dumps Colbie Smuthers bc of Daddy and then the season ends with Paul setting them back up, meh, seems desperate.
And now with all the Bill Lawerence chatter over the last week I really wonder where this goes next season. Are we getting a time skip or are we going back in time. Not sure how going back in time works given Ford's age (and I love the man but he looks his age) and the daughter who is probably 25 plus in real life. At first glance I'm not a fan of this whole concept but I've been with the show long enough that I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
