In my opinion, youre looking waaaay too much into this. I think its simple why there isn't 100% ABS. Because they don't want to turn the game into a gimmicky electronic video game. Gotta keep the game somewhat authentic. Conspiracy theories aside, how boring would the game be if they eliminated umpires all together and just had AI call the game? Yea, it would suck. Iove the energetic, full body "called 3rd strike" from the umpire, especially in a tense moment.

Imagine when Wainwright froze Beltran in the NLCS clinching game, if it were simply Alexa speaking "that ...is....strike.....3".

For you other old timers. How great was Ron Luciano at calling a 3rd strike, or calling a runner out at a base.

How is ABS a gimmick?

DH = gimmick
Runner at 2B in extra innings = gimmick.
Deferred contracts so a player's salary doesn't impact the luxury tax = gimmick.

In basketball if the ball doesn't go in the basket it's not a basket. In hocky if the puck doesn't go in the goal it's not a goal. In soccer if the ball doesn't go in the goal it's not a goal. In football if the ball doesn't cross the goal line it isn't a touchdown.

Only in baseball if the baseball isn't in the strike zone it's a strike if the umpire says to and the technology exists to get it right.
