Essentially two wasted roster spots at the moment
Fermin doesn’t play and we don’t need 3 catchers if Herrera is actually going to catch semi regularly.
The 13th position player is hardly ever going to play anyway so perhaps having Fermin there is not a big deal, but it sure would be nice to have a RH power option off the bench. Perhaps they view Pozo as that but Oli just isn’t using him. In any event a Velazquez or Jordan might make more sense in this role.
Oh, and Crooks over Pages already please…

If IH is DH you have to have 3 catchers.bfib wrote: ↑01 Apr 2026 22:46 pm Fermin doesn’t play and we don’t need 3 catchers if Herrera is actually going to catch semi regularly.

Not necessarily true. There is less than 2% chance that a catcher leaves a game with an injury in a 162-game season. So, that would mean 3 games at the most that having a 3rd catcher would be advantageous.Jatalk wrote: ↑02 Apr 2026 06:54 amIf IH is DH you have to have 3 catchers.bfib wrote: ↑01 Apr 2026 22:46 pm Fermin doesn’t play and we don’t need 3 catchers if Herrera is actually going to catch semi regularly.

It really take the option of Pozo pinch hitting IMO. You can’t afford to burn his eligibility. You make a good point on the odds but it is a risk. Also I think that is why they are carrying three.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑02 Apr 2026 07:39 amNot necessarily true. I'm going to change your title:
Essentially we've only played 2 series out of about 55.

Roycrap is another wasted roster spot
He needs to be DFA'd
(And Oli's love affair w/P. Pages needs to end ASAP. He needs to be gone too and Crooks brought up)

I like Pozo more than Pages anyway. But with Crooks and Bernal on the way, it will be interesting to see how that shakes out.
The Cardinals have always had a guy that just doesn't play. That guy makes the league min and his job is to stay ready and not embarrass himself.

What happens in the event that the 2% chance comes around? You move Herrera from DH to C and the pitcher has to be in the DH spot. You simply have to let the pitcher bat, or pinch hit for him when his spot comes up.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑02 Apr 2026 07:39 amNot necessarily true. The question becomes: Over a 162 game schedule will you get burned more often playing out the 2% scenario, or by having a 3rd catcher on the roster who rarely gets used? My opinion is that having the 3rd catcher on the roster is more costly than the times you would lose the DH spot by moving Herrera behind the plate. Might it be more uncomfortable for a game or two? It might, but the benefits would be worth it.

Like Pozo more than Pages. I think the understanding is that the pitchers are very comfortable/confident with Pages catching.
Can we at least give guys a solid 30-40 games to make definitive decisions? 60 would be optimal but the"fast food" fans need instant gratification

Barring injury, Pages will be here at least until the trade deadline. Personally, I think he will be here all year.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑02 Apr 2026 09:54 amMe too..JaseMan wrote: ↑02 Apr 2026 09:46 am I like Pozo more than Pages anyway.
