What Winn said Oli told them in morning ...

Post by ramfandan »

Winn in postgame presser ... This morning Oli told us (at meeting ) 'Who ever wants this game more is going to win today '
Throws cold water on those who feel Oli is not interested in winning games. He is motivating these young guys to play hard and it is clear to see it in their play.

Justin Bruihl " We've all got each others backs .

Gordon Graceffo. "We grind out ball games. We are a tough out. Cardinals are a way better team than people give us credit for."

Don't know how many games they can win this year but from Graceffo's comment the players are fired up to show they are better than many think.
Maybe the negative comments about how they will play in 2026 'the rebuild ' has put a chip on their shoulder.

Oli is a better manager than given credit for. The guys clearly enjoy playing for him. And if this season so far is any indication, he's got them ready to play.

I still don't think on a player-to-player basis that this team is a contender. But I strongly feel as if it's going to be a team that a lot of other clubs won't really want to play, you know? You might walk out of Busch with a series win, but you aren't going to get it easy.

He has to be better than he is given credit.

Gee, real words of wisdom from oli. "Whoever wants it more will win it." Shouldn't every team want to win? It is after all, their jobs. Most decent people want to perform their job well.

I give the coaching staff credit. The team looks well prepared and sound. They aren't beating themselves with sloppy play. And are taking mostly good at bats.

Id agree. I don't know if hes a great manager or not but the team has overachieved the last two seasons.

Who said he wasn't interested in winning games? I know it's a rebuild season and certain guys are going to be given a long leash over others because they want to see how they perform, but these guys are competitors, they still want to win with what they have.

So, a speech about who wants it more determined the outcome of the game? WTF? Why doesn't he give that speech every game? In reality, these anecdotes don't really mean much at all. The game was decided in extra innings by a popup that fell in a place three fielders could not reach. Nine times out of ten, a pop-up such as that is an out.

People have a really tough time understanding the concept of a rebuild. It's not like the individual guys stop wanting to win games or trying, they're even collectively good enough to do it around 70 times or so!

Especially in the first week of the season all these guys are gonna be plenty fired up. The grind hasn't set in yet. If they're still competing by the A-S break then it'll be appropriate to take notice, but more likely than not we're gonna see some long stretches of uninspired baseball come July and August.

Been saying for a while now:

A young team is also a dangerous team because they don't know they're not suppose to be any good!

Messed up part is there is nothing he can do and say at this point those who have decided they hate him will continue to no matter what happens. We can win 95 games and Oli won't have anything to do with it. Of course, win 60 games and the entire thing is his fault. Frustrates the hell outta me when fans aren't logical and fair minded about this [shirt]

As long as the lineup card doesn't have two lefties in a row, Marmol considers it a win. He's hoping to go 162-0.

Do those wise words of wisdom apply to just that game or all games? Because the cards have lost 2 does that mean they didn’t want to win them?

NOT only a great teacher but a Lombardi, Rockne, Cox, Lasorda, Stengel, Alston, et al type competent manager. All the while could never get on the field in MLB. Amazing.

Winn must really want to bat clean up.

And the hitting was terrible the last two games. I guess the hitters didn't get the message. :P
