The Marmot yet again defies all logic and consistency.
He is willing to stack 5 RH bats in a row against a journeyman LF pitcher - and yet is terrified of stacking LH bats against any RH pitcher other than at 9 &1.
Very strange.
Even more oddly, of the 3 LH bats in the lineup, he has them spaced into just 4 of the assigned spots, thereby giving opposing LH pitchers a "breather' when working through the STL order.
Let's see what happens.
I’m with Rock on this. It’s almost insane to think of Winn hitting cleanup and now to keep it up instead of admitting it was just a poor decision doesn’t make sense to me.
Who else should hit cleanup on this team?Literally anyone else. Not bringing Velazquez or Baez north to play LF and hit in the MOTO is one thing but to think Winn should be this guy just doesn’t seem rational.
Winn is showing us that he is a defense first SS who Oli keeps trying to find a spot to hit him but Oli ignores all of the available data that’s telling him where Winn should hit. Hit him leadoff, hit him cleanup. Until Winn improves his hit tool, he should hit at the bottom of the order. I’m not saying Winn can’t improve as a hitter but he’s building quite a resume as a mediocre hitter with a plus glove. The more pitchers are learning about Winn, the more difficult hitting is becoming for him. It seems like this is a big year for him. If he continues to struggle this year, next year will be year 3 and maybe he just is what he is and not what Oli wants him to be.
Oli's going to stick w/Winn at clean-up (0 RBI's---.111 .111 .222 .333) no matter how clueless it makes him look, the definition of insanity.
GO CARDS!
What’s the fascination here????? Is there some obscure analytics dictating WINN is a cleanup hitter the first 3 games against TB???
Oli is an idiot
My dumb guess is that they are attempting to get MW a upper lineup spot.
In the lineup thread, I had him in the #6 spot. That wasn't due to his hitting prowess but more an effort to get him out of the bottom third of the lineup guessing that it be a Oli goal.
He's not good enough to date for the LO, after that his profile drops well past the #4. Somebody is going to need to displace him, just my thoughts

Cards are 2-0, and yet, apparently not winning properly or having an appropriate batting order...
JJ will be the face of baseball
You can't make this [shirt] up
I’m not sure why attempting to reach peak talent, strategy, and performance is such a downer here. Does Winn look like he should be hitting in an RBI spot??

You're entitled to your opinion..
Winn was 5th on the team last year in RBIs. More than the bereaved Hurdy Gurdy. 2 of the top 5 are no longer on the team

Wetherholt, Winn, Burleson, Herrera and Baez 1 thru 5 may be the eventual ticket.

Oli has 5 players to choose from for cleanup .
JJ leadoff, he wants Herrera , and Burly 2 & 3 as you want your best hitters to potentially get to the plates the most times so he won't mess with that trio .. then Scott is locked in at 9 only.
So today that leaves Saggese , Pages, Walker, Urias , and Winn as his choices for the 4th spot. Winn is no sure thing but Oli must feel that the other 4 aren't a better threat from that group.

If Walker continues how he is looked, he could gain Oli's confidence in him and move Walker up , maybe even to clean up .

And that is a pathetic statement. There are 2 guys at AAA much better hitters than any 5 you have listed. Which rounds to my point of playing the best talent.
