Great point!RamFan08NY wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 16:14 pm Just cant believe they pitched to JJ, a contact hitter, with 1b open and one out. Glad they did, but I think most managers walk him to set up DP

Exactly. So many runners stranded at 3b. Hopefully the tide turns this year.Charles King wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 16:31 pm One thing better this season already. We scored the free run. How many times last season we failed to score the free run

Especially because it was Pages on deck and not Herrera thanks to Oli’s genius move of removing his best bat in the 8th for defense.Cusecards wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 17:02 pmGreat point!RamFan08NY wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 16:14 pm Just cant believe they pitched to JJ, a contact hitter, with 1b open and one out. Oli is lucky that Cash was dumber than him yesterday.

A bit harsh. He did have a four run lead. And with no expectations that a Pages at bat would be relevant. And as a defensive move. I see the intent.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 05:52 amEspecially because it was Pages on deck and not Herrera thanks to Oli’s genius move of removing his best bat in the 8th for defense.Cusecards wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 17:02 pmGreat point!RamFan08NY wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 16:14 pm Just cant believe they pitched to JJ, a contact hitter, with 1b open and one out. Maybe catcher is a position that you make a defensive sub.

One of the goals of the season should be to see if Herrera can’t handle himself, defensively behind the plate and our situations. This team is not winning this year. Let us not kid ourselves.
They will be fun to watch, and I will enjoy every minute of it, but the expectation is set and understood.
Therefore, you did not remove one of your best if not your best bat for Pedro F’n Pages

It’s just more of Oli’s love affair with Pages. Herrera had caught well the whole game, even making an outstanding catch of a foul ball!
With a four run lead, how much was Herrera expected to mess that up? I really hate to rant on Pages, because he seems like a good guy, but I don’t see that he is that much better than the other catchers we have. Especially the three catchers currently playing in the minors. Crooks has caught both of Memphis’ wins, has two hits, two walks and hit a home run. Bernal had two hits in yesterday’s game. Having a good defensive catcher, who actually hit, would be huge on this team. Pages should be a backup catcher, and nothing more.

He didn't remove Herrera for defensive purposes. He took him off the basepath. For all I know, that was a decision to avoid injury in the event of a play at home. He already had a 3 run lead and only 3 outs to get. Sure, it turned out to be unfortunate that the bullpen imploded, but, I never saw that as a defensive decision.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 08:43 amNot harsh at all SBDsikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 05:56 amA bit harsh. Yes! If he felt the rookie would be a better option there, they didn’t do their homework on JJ.Cusecards wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 17:02 pmGreat point!RamFan08NY wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 16:14 pm Just cant believe they pitched to JJ, a contact hitter, with 1b open and one out.
