Today proves why JJ should remain as leadoff
All of us know that the leadoff man gets the most at bats over the course of a season more than any other spot.
Today Wetherholt was the ONLY Cardinal player to get 5 plate appearances with his at bat in the 10th.
From the leadoff, he got on 1st , stole 2nd , and scored from 3rd in the 1st inning. Then got the 2 RBI runs to walk off the game winner.
While there is discussions on clean up 4th spot, Oli has JJ slotted for maximum plate appearances for the season at leadoff.
Keep him at No. 1.

He gets on base. Even vs LHP in the minors.
Unless a tailspin occurs, it would be stupid batting him anywhere else.

I agree. But I also have a feeling oli benches him tomorrow. You know, some [nonsense] of letting him have a day to think about how good he's playing.ramfandan wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 18:10 pm All of us know that the leadoff man gets the most at bats over the course of a season more than any other spot.

Re: Today proves why JJ should remain as leadoff
Until and unless he suddenly has a slump JJ should start 4 out of every 5 games played at lead off. Or even more. Remember if he wins ROY or places high STL gets an extra draft pick of some kind. He is looking solid in so many ways. I try to avoid the small sample size cheer leading but I see a guy who looks like a veteran 300 hitter.
Excited to see him. The teams infield is looking set for several years with Burleson looking like a solid #3 hitter and OK at 1B, JJW 2B, Winn SS (would like to see a small improvement at the plate), and Gorman perhaps finally looking like an OK defender and perhaps solid #5 slot hitter. f Gorman finally emerges the team is solid on the infield.
OF is still uncertain as there really needs to be ONE guy who can be considered a high end bat. Don't see it yet but easily fixed via free agency when the rest of the team is ready.

Agreed Dan. Finally they got a decent leadoff hitter. Let’s hope they don’t get cute and stick with what works.

I couldn’t stand when, after success, the org was fixated on trying to get more power out of Donovan and carp.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 19:11 pm Agreed Dan. Finally they got a decent leadoff hitter. Let’s hope they don’t get cute and stick with what works.
I think the org today is smarter.

And maybe staying down helped him succeed now but you would never say that because you need to complain. If Baez comes up at the end of the season and hits well or makes the team out of spring next season and hits well you will be saying he should have skipped AAA he would have been doing we are seeing instead of acknowledging maybe AAA helped him. But with you your opinion is whatever allows you to whine and complain

Even with a tailspin ( losing streaks will happen with all teams), keep him in the spot that gets him to the plate for the most appearances . Period !

No I’m just defending my point I made last season when I wrote he was ready. Got all the morons claiming “needs his time at AAA”. If you actually think his 200 abs at AAA made him the hitter he is…..Y’all are low IQOzziesfan41 wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 20:10 pmAnd maybe staying down helped him succeed now but you would never say that because you need to complain. You wanted him up last year? That would’ve been dumbGoldfan wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 20:13 pmNo I’m just defending my point I made last season when I wrote he was ready.
