Re: For You "Old School, Unwritten Rule" Type Fans
To me, there's nothing more cringeworthy than a fan or opposing team getting upset by something like Baez did. "Come on, when you're kicking our (donkey), do it the 'right way!'"
Now, if JB shouted in the opposing team's dugout or directed any emotion TOWARDS the pitcher or catcher, it's a different story.
But this idea that JB is 'showing up!' other players is just dumb. Bunch of snowflakes.

A slow homerun trot vs a severe intentional brain injury. Yea, that makes sense.
And why do pitchers always walk off the field at the end of an inning, while staring down a batter, while te rest of their team jogs off? Do they need a bat across the forehead,

Not a single player in the game should get upset at any antics. A majority if the players actually PUT jewelry on BEFORE the game. Could you even imagine Mantle or Aaron putting on 3 or 4 big gold chains for a baseball game?
All these players are about showmanship. Even the sunglasses on their hat, which never move from there is all about show.

No kidding. Also the pitcher should be mad at himself for sucking and giving up the home run not the hitter. It’s crazy to throw a tantrum and hit someone maybe injuring themRamFan08NY wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026 11:42 amA slow homerun trot vs a severe intentional brain injury. Yea, that makes sense.

Because you suck as a pitcher. Pretty childish behavior people are advocating. Should a batter have been allowed to throw a bat at Chris carpenter for yelling when he was coming off the mound after striking a guy out?

Chris Carpenter, though i don't think he was trying to showboat, certainly did go at other players for minor trivial things. He took the old school thinking to a pathetic level at times, though i did love the guy. A batter could just look at him for 2 seconds and Carpenter lost his marbles.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026 11:50 amNo kidding. I personally prefer watching the behavior of the dominican team over the crabby behavior of Carpenter. It's more entertaining. that's just me.
If Carpenter was playing in the WBC and Caminero hit a home run off him, Carpenter would probably charge the entire Dominican dugout.

112.7 mph?! I'd probably hold on to the bat as long as I could, too, after a bomb like that.
Didn't appear as if he showed up the other team, so it seems to be all good. Get used to watching him because once he becomes the starting RF he is going to hold the position for a decade.

lol I’m fine either way different players use different ways to pump themselves up for competition some are like carp and need that intensity and surliness some play it light and have fun. But it’s weird the same people who love carp and his antics which certainly showed up batters gets a pass but guys who watch a home run don’tAdam2 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026 12:32 pmChris Carpenter, though i don't think he was trying to showboat, certainly did go at other players for minor trivial things. I hate the oppressive nature of baseball. NFL used to be this way... let em celebrate or get mad as long as they aren't showing up the opponent. People should be able to celebrate their own accomplishments. Let's go Savanah Bananas!Adam2 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026 05:48 am For everyone on here who hates the showboating, hot dogging, whatever you want to call it........You might not like Josh Baez.
If you saw his most recent home run, he hit it, and walked halfway down the first base line holding his bat before he started his jog around the bases. I loved it, we need some more flair around here

For me, it depends on the situation, and I consider myself fairly old school. I saw the Baez home run. Was it more than I'd do? Yeah. But I don't find it to be in too poor of taste.
You hit a home run in an April game against a team in a different league in the fourth inning? Just take your trot and get going. Bop one against a rival in crunch time? Don't overdo it, but pimp it out a little bit, I don't mind.

I understand your point but i slightly disagree. If baez was established and had a guaranteed spot on the ML roster yes i agree with you. But this is a young un-established player that has underperformed his draft position for years. Now he's coming around and starting to make a name for himself near the MLB level. A home run for him in spring training is a pretty big deal for him. I don't blame the excitementStrummer Jones wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026 12:59 pm For me, it depends on the situation, and I consider myself fairly old school. I saw the Baez home run. Was it more than I'd do? I'm a little confused with what you disagree with. I didn't find Baez's celebration to be in bad taste. More than I'd do in the situation, but still appropriate.Adam2 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026 14:19 pmI understand your point but i slightly disagree. Just wrote a thread about this a couple days back. It's out of control right now with pitchers & batters. Before, the players worked it out as to the consequences for showing someone up. I'm for that. note: if God helped you hit a triple, God also helped you hit into a DP.
