Should Saggese be sent to Memphis so Fermin can stay with the team?
I don't believe so. Some reasons, The uncertainty at 3B and in LF. Actually, even in RF and CF. Saggese does have some options. However, what does Saggese have to prove in the minors? Actually, Walker has more to prove there than Saggese does. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/ca ... bc9d&ei=10

its important to consider playing time. if saggese or fermin are the last roster spot- how much playing time are they gonna get? probably not much. saggese did well when he was first called up last year until arenado or someone returned to injury and then he started sitting on bench more and went cold.Shady wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 17:04 pm I don't believe so. saggese needs regular playing time. fermin also showed a great abiluty late last season to hit well with limited playing time while saggese didnt.
fermin should make roster as last guy. if an injury happens, then saggese shozld be called up and start over fermin. but saggese needs playing time- fermin has shown enough to not be given away for free-- he will be claimed if waived- and fermin has shown promise of being able to succeed in that limited bench role

Right. Also, IMO, the OD roster this year should be taken with a grain of salt. There will be movement. There will be injuries. There may be deep slumps.Wattage wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 19:21 pmits important to consider playing time. if saggese or fermin are the last roster spot- how much playing time are they gonna get? probably not much. saggese did well when he was first called up last year until arenado or someone returned to injury and then he started sitting on bench more and went cold.Shady wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 17:04 pm I don't believe so. I don’t see saggese getting enough playing time when noot comes back to keep him on the team. Winn when he was healthy played 150 games JJ if he isn’t hurt you can pen him in for 150 plus games he won’t be sitting against lefties so that would leave him as a pinch hitter platoon with Gorman occasional starter elsewhere he needs to play everyday. But of course if he is hitting well until noot comes back then yea you keep him and find at bats for him

They both should be on the 26 man roster and receive regular to semi-regular playing time! Which makes it even more weird that the Cardinals felt they needed to sign Urias and clog up things! He wasn’t needed. For a team and Owner that have been trying save money this off-season, what money they have spent has been debatable!

Jose Fermin has earned the opportunity

I think urias was signed more because of his leadership. The veterans they did sign may and stanek have been on world championship winning teams and urias has been in a couple of post seasons but he’s also reported to good veteran leader who apparently has a great work ethic that is a good influence on younger players. He also plays gold glove defenseHoosier59 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 19:45 pm They both should be on the 26 man roster and receive regular to semi-regular playing time! Saggese's power potential from the right side is why he needs to be on the team. He'll likely end up starting somewhere this season. Probably either LF or 3B.rage-STL wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 20:41 pm Saggese hit an oppo bomb for team Italy against the Cubs today.

I think Urias is here as a safety net in case Gorman sucks. And to show all the young infielders how to prepare for a 162 game season.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 20:14 pmI think urias was signed more because of his leadership. I think Fermin is out of options, and can perform ok with limited ABs. He bats RH and plays a lot of positions. He’s probably my 26th.

Why did you ask the question if you already think you have the answer? Two reasons. One is attention, the second is to solicit support for your crush #2 (no one could replace Burleson as #1).Shady wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 17:04 pm I don't believe so. I’m sure you are correct, but we just heard Oli say how that wasn't needed. He believes that guys already here are ready to step into those leadership roles. All Urias does is take playing time away from Saggese, Fermin, and Gorman. If it doesn’t, then whenever he plays somebody else will have to sit. Be it Winn, Wetherholt, Burleson, or an outfielder. You know DeWitt isn’t going to let Bloom release him now, so he’s here until at least the trade deadline. He’s not bringing anything back in trade either. For a team wanting to see what the young guys can do, and not concerned with wins and losses, this was just a dumb signing!BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 21:01 pmI think Urias is here as a safety net in case Gorman sucks.
