So we all agree that the reasoning Oli was extended has nothing to do with Bloom actually liking Oli as a manager?

Hmm, okay.

It tells me that the Cardinals aren’t going to compete in the next year or two so why hire a high profile manager when you have one that will do what you tell him to do.

Two, it tells me that Bloom and Owners really don’t want Yadi as Manager of the team. This will now force Yadi into going to another team. Then Cards will be off the hook. There’s no way these owners would allow someone they can’t control to manage the team. They know Yadi will hold them accountable. And they aren’t willing to take that risk.

Yadi knows exactly what the team's plans are for him. Buying off Oli's last year could also be part of the plan. A nice parting gift and time to plan for it....

They may also feel that if Yadi is not doing well as manager that it would be difficult firing him. How do you fire a legend of the team ?
Dismissing a Pujols, Yadi, Ozzie , Waino is not a position an organization wants to be in .

I can’t argue your points, you are correct reference recent history. I still believe winning is the objective, however, as we all know, this isn’t your normal off season reset.

Takes time. Therefore in a down time focus may change to keep the franchise going.

I’d still say winning is - at this juncture, maybe a long term goal.

I think the industry passed us by, or we just fell off, too fast.

Now that hole is deeper and wider than a normal off season. Takes a different template. This in turn takes time.

the industry changed and the club was slow to react, and there were too many chairs at the roster table

there are indications those issues are being addressed

I think there is reason for optimism

Yeah, that’s far fetched…
I’m sure Bloom and the DeWitt’s, discussed the future of Marmol. My guess is, and it’s just a guess, the DeWitt’s and Bloom were on the same page about retaining Marmol as the manager.

Well, let's be clear that everyone is 'GUESSING' on CT regarding this, including me.

My 'guess':

Dewits to Bloom: "Well, what do you want to do about Oli?"
Bloom: "From my two years' experience here, I think OM can be an asset during this rebuild and possibly beyond. Once we start supporting him better through the MiLB pipeline and giving him better-educated ways to work the roster, I think he can thrive. The players (current and former) respect him, he has managed in the minors. He is a former pro player. And, we work well together."

Sure, it's a guess. But it's much more likely than the Dewitts 'blocking' Bloom from replacing Oli.

Isn’t that the claim….that he gets along great with the players?
There is story in PD where the players attended the presser announcing his extension
It’s been stated here many times…..Players like Oli…..he relates to players well
