Why can’t Doyle get a look this spring?

When Craig Biggio converted from catcher to second base he worked extensively with former second baseman Bill Doran to learn the position. I'm just wondering if that is what the Cardinals are doing on a back field somewhere. Do they have a plan? Last season they had him at 2B in only 20 games. 72 games at SS and 3B.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑28 Feb 2026 09:10 amSo you have never experienced spring training before...ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑28 Feb 2026 09:01 amYes. True but ideally if those pitchers are the future of the franchise you would like to see a little better.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑28 Feb 2026 10:51 amWho cares only one of them is maybe going to be on the opening day rosterScotchMIrish wrote: ↑28 Feb 2026 07:51 am https://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs-car ... /final/box

And ideally they would start in the minor leagues where they should and improve look around the league every team has Multiple minor league pitchers giving up runs. And most of them are working on things anywayScotchMIrish wrote: ↑28 Feb 2026 10:55 amTrue but ideally if those pitchers are the future of the franchise you would like to see a little better.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑28 Feb 2026 10:51 amWho cares only one of them is maybe going to be on the opening day rosterScotchMIrish wrote: ↑28 Feb 2026 07:51 am https://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs-car ... /final/box

JJ has played 2B previously so not new to him unlike Walker who’s 3rd baseman who was put in RF.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑28 Feb 2026 09:01 amYes. I never heard of it before. Good list and post!Mort Gage wrote: ↑28 Feb 2026 11:12 am Spring Training objectives:
1) Gradually stretch out pitchers, particularly starters
2) Get key position players at bats against starters from other teams. Then get them out early. Play them more as you get deeper into March.
3) Possibly use it as a tryout for 26th man or last man in the bullpen.
4) Test a player in a new role as they are with Saggese in OF
5) Get through with as few injuries as possible

When they shut out the Mets, did you start a thread indicating what a promising young staff they have?
It is tempting to fall prey to SSSSST (super small sample size spring training) stats. In his interview over on MLB, Bloom talks about not making roster decisions solely on Spring Training stats, lest you be fooled badly.mattmitchl44 wrote: ↑28 Feb 2026 08:10 am The Red Sox gave up 15 yesterday, the Phillies 16, the Twins 17, and the Marlins 10.
It happens in ST.
