Saggese in left field today

Post by Shady »

There could be some good competition for playing time in LF. Especially, if Saggese starts showing more power.

Yes
Especially with Donovan gone and Noot likely to the IL.
Throw Church in the mix and at some point possibly Herrera?

So Pozo has first base glove in his locker too. Has played it occasionally throughout his minor league career.

He has shown a RH bat. I imagine a catcher can stretch and pick at 1B.

Torres now with a .500 OBP in his first 8 PA of spring training. He had a .441 OBP at AAA last year. He is the classic late bloomer who has honed a skillset as an on base machine. He will take the Donovan role of full-time leadoff hitter while playing a number of positions.

Not as familiar with Torres, can he play all OF and INF?

What about Pozo and or Herrera getting some time at 1B and putting Burly back in LF some? Just a thought.

He has logged at least 200 innings professionally at every position except SS, and that includes catcher. I'm sure he could be the emergency catcher if needed since he has more than 500 innings behind the plate going back to his early minor league career. Primarily he's been at 2B and OF the last two seasons in Springfield and Memphis, but he's also played a few innings at 3B. Small, scrappy guy who could fill the Donovan role with less pop and more speed.

My money is on the younger more slugging Fermin

I like Fermin, too. Between injuries and ineffectiveness of other players, I think we'll see a lot of both of them in STL this season.

When the season starts. Here's hoping Burly notches around 30 dingers.
