On this date in Cardinals history, August “Gussie” Busch Jr. bought the team, weaving together the destinies of the club, the Anheuser-Busch brewery, and the city itself.

Previous owner Fred Saigh, who had been indicted for tax evasion, is said to have turned down other offers from out-of-town buyers.
The Busch family would own the club until March 1996.
