I've brought this up before but for me personally it's seeing how this development staff works with the active roster and minor league players. Obviously, the minors are harder to keep track of, for most of us.
As far as the 26 man I am interested in seeing AT LEAST one of these players develop into something we haven't seen before. Even then you won't know right out the gates, it could be attributed to time, but if we see a couple of these players start to play better baseball (whether that means high WAR, an individual statistic, etc..) it could mean good things to come.
That's what I am hopeful for.
I believe in Flores and that arm of the team. A lot of players that staff drafted have been traded off and have been successful, some more than others. Pair that with an outstanding development arm (TBD), the need for FA signings will diminish.
Nolan Gorman to find his footing and become dangerous bat in the 5-6 spot
JJ Wetherholt to look the part of a top of the order franchise cornerstone
I’m hoping the same for Walker. 6 ft 6 with that exit velo would be wild to see if he could increase his launch angle and be successful in doing so.
Even that massive cavern couldn’t contain his blast!

For an actual young core to emerge. Preferably a RHH outfielder as part of it.

I want to see solid fundamental play and stop with the cavalier attitude of accepting losing like changing your socks every morning.
That's a start.
Lots of good points/comments in this thread but I especially wanted to piggyback off your mention of fundamentals:
*Baserunning- Yikes! It was awful last year and the vets were just as bad as the kids!
*Mental mistakes- Way too many!
*Plate discipline- Generally poor.
When you can only watch on TV and have no feel from the dugout/locker room it is hard to tell how much “coaching” plays a part in all of this?
Although I will say....Pop Warner is atrocious as a 3B Coach.
You might as well select a fan from the stands every night!!
