Re: USA VS Slovakia
Man I know Thompson got us ROR and no cup without ROR but man the reality is that Thompson was a late 1st rounder that showed next to nothing in his first stint with the Blues. I’m sure Buffalo would have taken a number of different prospects instead or even an extra pick.
Crazy for any #26 overall pick to turn into a top tier goal scorer and of course it’s the Blues that let him go when he didn’t have a chance to develop.
Not only can he score, he has size and strength. All things badly missing from this Blues offense

How did Buffalo do during that time?
Re: USA VS Slovakia
What do you mean? You know Thompson was just a recent late 1st rounder that had shown nothing yet right? The Blues could have included a different prospect or another 1st.BleedingBleu wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 16:04 pmWho else was going to bring back O’Reilly?stlblue06 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 15:55 pm Man I know Thompson got us ROR and no cup without ROR but man the reality is that Thompson was a late 1st rounder that showed next to nothing in his first stint with the Blues. Yes easier to say in hindsight, I’m just saying the Blues could have easily got ROR without given up Thompson.

+1. and I just found it interesting that there wasn't a whole lot of teams interested in obtaining ROR from Buffalo. it seemed.stlblue06 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 16:09 pmWhat do you mean? Re: USA VS Slovakia
Well Hellebyck must’ve been feeling sorry for Slovakia slinking like a tip out of position.
Every time. A player goes down these announcers act like each team will fold because one guy is out.
Crosby is great but old and a leader but the are others in Canada to take his place.
So Thompson goes down in the 3rd period and you’d think that the one player will cause the power play to freeze up!
Now let’s see a Dvorsky goal

That much white in the 'dark' jerseys shouldn't be allowed

Blueski-maybe you should do a PTS for the Sunday game.
I’m going with USA over Canada 7-6 and Mr. Hughes as the SOG

Re: USA VS Slovakia
They tried to deal other prospects. Buffalo wanted specifically Tage. Tage was even told by the Blues that he was slotted into that lineup. There's an interview with Tage with I believe Chiklits and he said he didn't want to leave STL. He felt like that team was a strong team going in and he was going to get to finally show what he can do because he thought he himself underwhelmed. Blues had faith, but so did Buffalo. Blues made the right choice, and Buffalo made the right choice. Blues got the better player right then and they don't win without ROR leading the way. The story of the Blues is underachievers in guys like Petro, Vladi, etcs. career if they don't figure out how to take that next step. ROR Schenn and Binner forced the teams hand and made them a stanley cup champ squad.stlblue06 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 16:09 pmWhat do you mean? Regardless, he's not a Top5 pick so clearly doesn't have the goods.
Re: USA VS Slovakia
Don’t worry fellows., we now have Jack Finley at 66 to develop into a Tage Thompson type
Re: USA VS Slovakia
Ridiculous these guys fighting and Brady throwing in punches (3rd man in)
There goes the handshake line

First-Off, we can’t change history no can we know what Buffalo was demanding. Second, here’s an article from 2017 about the Blues Prospects.stlblue06 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 16:09 pmWhat do you mean? Now, that’s just some random list, but you’re looking at Kyrou as the #1 Prospect, but actually drafted after Thompson, and Robert Thomas drafted the next year. So, who’s to argue Thompson wasn’t the #1 Center Prospect in the organization and most NHL-Ready Prospect at that time?1.) Kyrou (35th, 2016)
2.) Dunn (56th, 2015)
3.) Blais (6th Round, 2014)
4.) Walman (82nd, 2014)
5.) Thomas (20th, 2017)
6.) Thompson (26th, 2016)
7.) Nolan Stevens (who? - 5th Round , 2016)
8.) Kostin (31st, 2017)
9.) Adam Musil (who? - 4th Round, 2014)
10.) Evan Fitzpatrick (who? - 59th, 2016)
Tage actually played in 41 Games for the Blues in 2017/18 as a 20 year old. So, do you think Buffalo would have taken Oskar Sundqvist (23), Ivan Barbashev (22), or Sammy Blais (21) over Tage? Those were the young Centers who played for the Blues the year prior to the Buffalo trade for O’Reilly.
