Murphy gets extended.. will Marmol ?

Post by ramfandan »

Brewers manager was entering 2026 in final year of a deal from 2024.
Brewers increased his pay for 2026 and gave him 2 more years thru 2028 with club option for 2029.
Brewers , like many teams, do not wish a manager to be in lame duck year.
Bloom has indicated he generally agrees that lame duck status is not best situation.
Marmol though has not had the success that Murphy has eith Milwaukee.
Reports surfaced in fall that Bloom/Marmol had initial discussions on an extended contract.
Is Bloom going to extend Marmol citing the lame duck rationale ?
Not asking IF Marmol should be extended. Many feel he should NOT but WILL Bloom extend Oli ?
I am thinking Bloom will.

Why not? The team is going to suck for the next two to three years and no championship caliber manager is going to want to manage this team until they are at least a playoff contender.

No comparison of course.

But I could see, given the lockout is coming, the useless Oli given a one year extension (re: a lot cheaper for Dewitt than hiring a good, new manager will be).

Then after the new CBA is in place, BDWJr let's C. Bloom fire him after the 2027 season and hire his Manager!

I don't think it really matters.
Extend him a couple of years isn't going to affect things that much.

Spot on, except I don’t think he will be fired, just reassigned within the organization. That still wouldn’t stop him from accepting another position with another team. If any are interested!? Ha!

That was my opinion too hoosier when I was hoping he'd be gone long ago, just re-assign him back to the minors where he belongs.

I'd put the odds of another team hiring him as Manager at "slim & none" too.

He didn’t earn the first extension I don’t see why he would need to earn another extension so I think he will get one after all don’t want him feeling the pressure of
Needing to be good at his job
