Re: GDT Vandy at Mizzou
A coach whose team tries to "sit on" A lead like MU built up, should be fired. Coaching 101- if you're ahead by 20, play to get ahead by 30. You keep doing what you did to get ahead. You don't stop playing.
Re: GDT Vandy at Mizzou
For those asking why Mizzou inbounded into the corner on the press so many times...you DO realize there's another team out there, right? The whole object of the press is to FORCE a pass into the corner. Every defender hedges his man toward the corner. It isn't stupidity on the part of the inbounding team. They have five seconds to get it in, and if they don't find somebody to pass to in the first two or three seconds, the ONLY way to get it in is to pass to the guy in the corner, which the defense is purposely leaving open. The key to beating it is for the player who gets the inbounds pass to make an instant decision to pass out of it before the double comes, or as Barrett did a couple times, take the pass and instantly dribble out, splitting the double team. Mizzou's problem beating it is that neither Barrett nor Robinson made quick decisions, they took the pass and looked everything over. If you look, you're too late. To beat it, you have to KNOW where the outlet pass needs to go, which means trusting your teammates to make themselves available for it.
And give Vandy credit. Tanner is a heck of a player. He almost single-handedly won that game.

Did they lose? In sports Winning Matters and Sulking does not. The critics of any winning team are not fans but haters, the 0-18 crowd. Not pleased because they won says it All.2forDiving wrote: ↑18 Feb 2026 22:27 pm This was so awful even the Gates apologist took the night off![]()

Why don't You apply for the job? Doing so would be Ignorance 101. They win-Criticize. They lose- Criticize. Stop following the team and maybe you will sleep better. You can always put in your application.California Cardinal Fan wrote: ↑18 Feb 2026 23:02 pm A coach whose team tries to "sit on" A lead like MU built up, should be fired. He's a knee-jerk fan who is seldom happy with the team no matter what. So now he is saying they quit playing. No, they did not quit playing. And they built a 21-point lead against the No. 19 team in the country. No credit for that? Vanderbilt was going to make a run and they did. That's the nature of college basketball. You can't just decree to your team that they should now take the lead by 30 points. That's seldom going to happen against a very good team.LCA1951 wrote: ↑19 Feb 2026 00:07 amWhy don't You apply for the job? Doing so would be Ignorance 101. They win-Criticize. They lose- Criticize. And this team survived a full court A&M press for the entire game with only 7 turnovers. So they were a little worse against Vandy in that regard. And Vandy made some circus shots to get back in the game. Also, on a positive note that this guy doesn't want to take into account, even Burns showed up and played significant minutes. And most showed up at the FT line. And they won despite their top scorer having a bad game. Enough of the Debbie Downer routine.
Re: GDT Vandy at Mizzou
With a 21 point point lead I sure can't say they were lucky to win.
I put a lot of that comeback on coach for failing to stem the tide over that span of time. He needs to be better helping his guys out there.
Now the guys are not exempt either. They did fail to shut Vandy down and keep control of the game.
A win is a win....learn from it and win again.

Re: GDT Vandy at Mizzou
Happy to get one... hopefully some work done on breaking the press. We've struggled mightily against it this year.
Nice to see Ant rebound in the second half- we needed some positive contributions from him.
Mitchell with a terrible shooting night- made some great assists earlier, braindead passes late.
Burns offered positive minutes. He's not strong enough to fight and retain rebounds, but his height was a challenge for Vandy in the paint.
Phillips- boneheaded fouls just plague him. Reach in foul 1.5 minutes into the second half send him to the bench for 10 mins.
TO- ran the offense to a T for the majority of the game- he sometimes pushes his own offense a little too much, but for a guy starting his 7th game, hard to be disappointed in his play. Made some great assists last night, and steady at the line.
Pierce- got heated up and ended up with a good shooting night- He's a problem for most defenders when he's attacking the rim.
Stone- closest thing we have to instant offense. Dude just understands the game...we go away from him too often when we need a basket.
Just gets tougher from here. MIZ

A whole game-day thread and not one mention that Vanderbilt has a player named Chandler Bing?

Re: GDT Vandy at Mizzou
Ask Vandy about that. Vandy, which is a very good team with an elite point guard, looked terrible and Missouri looked great for the better part of the second half as Missouri took a 21-point lead on them. To their credit, they stepped up their play and pressure, and Missouri opened the door with too many turnovers. To Missouri's credit, they did not fold and scored enough to secure the win. Vandy also made some circus shots in that comeback. I'll take it.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑19 Feb 2026 09:47 amIdk, that win sure felt like a loss.LCA1951 wrote: ↑19 Feb 2026 00:01 amDid they lose? Oh we will definitely take it! It was just kind of deflating how it ended with an almost epic choke job! I really think that long delay for the flagrant fouls really took the wind out of our sails and took the crowd out of it too.icon wrote: ↑19 Feb 2026 09:53 amAsk Vandy about that. Or gamblers who had Mizzou winning by at least two.LCA1951 wrote: ↑19 Feb 2026 00:01 amDid they lose? In sports Winning Matters and Sulking does not. Re: GDT Vandy at Mizzou
That may be Gates' biggest downfall: the inability to stem the tide, be it in-game or in-season. During the 20 game odd losing streak, Mizzou blew a number of double digit leads. They lost OVER 20 games in a row. Then last season, they lost what? 8 of their last 9. 9 of the last 10? When the downward spiral kicks in, Gates is powerless to stop it. Had that last shot gone in, Mizzou probably loses out.dhsux wrote: ↑19 Feb 2026 06:32 am With a 21 point point lead I sure can't say they were lucky to win.

It gives someone like Red an opportunity to hate and attack the program for a couple of days.

Re: GDT Vandy at Mizzou
When the game started & we let Vandy have an open 3 & a dunk while we turned it over twice, I was thinking (combined with the TX loss) that we were starting the late season swoon a littler earlier this year. Then we got it together & played really well for the next 28 minutes as we built a big lead. As it grew, I was looking at the clock & thinking "too much time". But when it was 21 points with 8+ minutes left people around me were smiling & feeling good; me too. Since it was an 8pm game & the second half had many reviews, etc. people even started to leave. Then most everything turned Vandy's way. Even as it got closer & closer, I thought, "no way!, right?" We hit our FT's & finally even after Vandy hit every shot we had a one pt lead & the ball with 1.6 seconds left. You could see Mitch thinking, "don't get someone trapped in the corner again, throw it long". If he throws it into the backcourt & it's touched the game is over. Only, don't throw it to mid-court & don't throw it to the other team! As the ball hit the rim everyone's eyes nearly popped out of our heads.
A collective gasp & looks of bewilderment were all around me. Then we realized WE WON! Weird feeling, I think everyone was thinking how we nearly really Mizzou'd that one.
