Cards 6 man rotation or
Benefits of a 6‑man rotation
1. Reduces pitcher fatigue
Starters get an extra day of rest:
Bullpens get overworked
Better recovery
More consistent velocity
Lower injury risk
Teams with young or fragile arms
Helps teams with many “good but not ace” starters
____________________________________
Bullpen games became popular because they:
Avoid giving innings to weak back‑end starters
Reduce exposure the 3rd time through the order

Re: Cards 6 man rotation or
they have had the players to do it before and not done it. . When CMart was a young pitcher, they had the memphis numbers to start someone and then swap for a memphis reliever etc......they have never done it despite how many times outlined possible on the forum.

Re: Cards 6 man rotation or
I'd think one HOPE would be that starters would go deeper into the game, reducing innings on the bullpen. I doubt it always works that way.earp wrote: ↑17 Feb 2026 16:30 pm Benefits of a 6‑man rotation

Re: Cards 6 man rotation or
Wrong direction IMHO. Less pitches per appearance, not more pitches per appearance.
8 man rotation. 70 pitch limit. twice through the lineup then 3 or 4 days off. 2 guys cover 7 or 8 innings per game.
When possible, RH starter first, then LH piggy back starter, then bullpen.
Opponents never see the same pitcher more than 2 times in the same series.
5 relievers. 2 closers, 3 setup relievers - 2 guys cover 1 or 2 innings per game.
Variety 1 is a 4 game rotation
May / Mathews
McGreevy / Fitts
Dobbins / Liberatore
Pallante / Leahy
BP Romero, Stanek, O'Brien, Svanson, Pushard, ... Soriano, Bruihl, Kent, Fernandez, Graceffo, Raquet, Roycroft
Variety 2 is a 5 game rotation with 3 normal starters and 4 piggy back guys. Different guys could slide back and forth from 90 to 70 pitches but IMHO May, Matthews, Dobbins, Fitts can't get close to 150 IP and still be effective. If a pitcher is doing well, move him to a 90 pitch slot and give someone else a lighter load.
May 70 / Matthews 70
McGreevy 90
Dobbins 70 / Fitts 70
Liberatore 90
Pallante 90
Leahy (or Fitts) rejoins the bullpen to make it 6 relievers since they will need to pitch a bit more.

I think they will use a starter like they did mcgreevy last season call him up for a start then option him back down

With number of pitchers each pitcher throws. When are they going to add another roster spot. Worry of injury and number of innings

Re: Cards 6 man rotation or
Forgot to mention, if May is doing well, he will be traded at the deadline, if he's not, he won't be back in 2027. Maybe by the deadline Cijntje, Doyle, Mautz or someone else will be ready to replace him.cardstatman wrote: ↑17 Feb 2026 19:15 pm Wrong direction IMHO. I don't see it.
Oli needs as many arms as he can get in the pen'.
Especially "NO" if the 6th man is Pallante.

Like all other areas getting runways, I think so does Pallante. New eyes.
