I played Golf and Tennis, more Tennis. I played elementary level ~5 years, and could hit probably because of my golf and tennis lessons at a very early age. But I was a disaster in the field, absolutely horrible. Most were at those ages, but I was especially bad. Not much better on the base paths. The sport is overwhelming at times.

Played from age 8 until early 30's. Little League, American Legion, Ban Johnson, small college (naia) and senior adult league. I was never that good but since I was a lefty I was automatically a pitcher. This was back in the day when there weren't that many leftys. Since retirement I've been involved with our local little league and it is fun to see that many kids are still excited about baseball.

I was very lucky.
University of Texas baseball.
An all too brief most-of-a-season in the lowest of early 70’s rookie ball, where I raked .221. On that team, one guy made it to the show-Giants-but his was mostly a AA/AAA career. I still envy him.
The guys who make it are on a totally different level.

This has been a super thread. No name calling, no arguement, just group of folks talking.

Matt congradulations on the upcoming retirement. I did it in June 2011 at 58. Never regretted it. Since then some know I buy and sell stuff. A lot of antique tools, cast iron and whatever looks like it will make a little money. Not real concernedwith making a lot, just having fun and making a profit.

I agree. Very casual. As for your new trade, surely much of the enjoyment comes from the meeting of so many people and their stories.

Those are great examples. Even McCrea was good. Nice response.

I teach Bingo. I was an excellent Bingo player until I developed some arthritis in the dauber hand. But, in study the numbers all week. I can teach you, too.

So who on here has ever played baseball? I’m not talking little league, high school or senior league. Who has played pro ball?
Not a camp where everyone is invited to try out. I’m looking for the legitimate prospect. I’m guessing nobody.

To go further, who has owned a team? Who is a billionaire? People have lots of advice for billionaires. I figure there has to be a couple on here. NOT.

Just admit as you drive to your middle management job or Taco Bell, you have no idea what it takes to run a $billion corporation.

It’s highly likely that the 1 hour a day thinking about how a team should be ran, doesn’t make you an expert on the subject.

Face it, like me, you’re a fan with an opinion that doesn’t normally make sense.
So should we just shut CT down since no one is qualified to speak?
You and a few others missed the point.
A guy that played wiffle ball has no business telling another person they “never played the game” and that what’s make their opinion “stupid”.
I don’t care if you coached college, that doesn’t make you more qualified than the next person.
I bet there are a couple on here that think Marmol, Mo, Chaim and Dewitt are idiots. Why? Because my friend got drafted or I met Bob Gibson once.
People have stupid opinions because they have stupid opinions. Not because “they never played the game”.
My OP was in defense of people having opinions.

That’s what made this org so bad for so many years. A homeless drunk could have done a comparable job to Moe.

Letting the player development arm of the org rot like an old banana was a complete dereliction of duties.

And I can almost bet that these Taco Bell managers didn’t have the FBI cybercrime division audit their place of employment.
Nailed it. A pizza kitchen manager was hired to run a professional baseball team. And he completely ran one of the most historic franchises in sport into the ground and ruined it's rep.
Do you think we will recover.
I'm surprised he's not swinging from a rafter
