Pick the 2027 rotation

Post by Youboughtit »

Here is a partial list of SP depth for 2027. There are 14 more names not included that are 24-25 years old.

MLB
Libertore
May
McGreevy
Pallante
Leahy

AAA
Hence
Mautz
Dobbins
Fitts

IR
Roby
Hjerpe
Robberse

AA
Doyle
Matthews
Clarke
Cjinte

A
Franklin

My prediction
Doyle
Libertore
McGreevy
Mautz
Clarke

Several of this group are aging fast and will be rule 5 eligible. I am all for pitching depth but it appears there is a logjam of 24-25 year old guys being passed up by the younger group. What’s the plan? Let them get claimed? Seems like the new POBO had a plan of throwing numbers at the rotation but how do they manage the logjam next off season? Can only keep so many

1.) Liberatore
2.) Doyle
3.) McGreevy
4.) Mathews
5.) Dobbins

*Fitts, Cjinte, Roby, Hjerpe, Mautz, Henderson, Hence, Hansen all knocking on the door.

Sign Logan Gilbert after 2027; Trade some P depth for other needed pieces. Then we roll!

Actually, I'd sign Skubal next offseason and let him be the ace!! Still add Gilbert after 2027 :D

1.) Skubal
2.) Gilbert
3.) Doyle
4.) Liberatore
5.) McGreevy/Mathews
*HELLO WORLD SERIES!

Anything could happen by 2027. We not only have the guys mentioned above but our team payroll will be around 50-60 million dollars by then. Will BDW make 100-130 million dollars available to invest in this team or will he continue his “rebuild” ways. IMO, this is the bigger question.

We have a large pitching group with a fair amount of upside. Who’s going to step up.
Doyle
Liberatore
McGreevy
Matthews
Fitts
Dobbins
Mautz
could all be guys to choose from but what if BDW enhances this group with a TOTR guy. Add a Skubal or Gilbert to this group and you have an even stronger group of pitchers.

We also have 6 picks in the top 85 so we could be adding more potential. To me, this is about what BDW is willing to do. How much is he willing to increase payroll from where he has us now.

Yep. We could potentially be in a really nice position.

I think, it should be an open competition in camp with only Libertore and Mcgreevy guaranteed a spot. Would like it to shake out like this:

1 Libby
2 Mcgreevy
3 May
4 Leahy
5 Dobbins

My goal is to find starters who can go six plus and show durability. 25 plus starts.

While sorting out a crowded infield.

THEN add the outfield bat.

I think the OP was asking about next year, 2027. Is that what you envision in 2027?

Rock, I think they are talking about 2027 rotation. What do you envision that looking like a year from now?

My bad, thx for the heads up C4L!

Okay re-do:

Doyle
Libby
McG
Dobbins or Fitts or Leahy or "Q" battle it out for the last two spots.

When do we add a big FA to that group?

That's what I think happens, best case scenario, of course. Though, if there's rhyme or reason to the particular order, I'm not sure I agree with it. I think:

Libby
McGreevy
Doyle
Dobbins
Leahy/Mathews

But, you know, po-tay-to, poh-tah-toh.

Hopefully those guys hit well enough (and we still have good talent coming up like Fajardo, Franklin, Cintje, etc) to make some of these guys expendable for a big bat or other pieces we might need.

Likely work on the offense first in F.A. (Outfield, 3rd base) since BDWJr will never, ever be in the running to sign a true #1/ACE in free agency.

The starting pitching is going to have to come from within the organization, hopefully Doyle is the first true FOTR starter w/more to come.

Ok, then. What FAs do you want for 3B/OF?

For sure SJ

And you listed the next possible wave we should see sometime in 2028.

I'll also add T. Roby and B. Clarke both when healthy (but Clarke may end up being a huge pen's arm instead of a starter).

And of course I've been screaming now for a third season they convert T. Hence and prep him for the closers role! :x
