Olympic break, is it worth it?

I hate these long breaks for the Olympics. I feel the 4 nations was great for the sport but these Olympics and the games just don't move the needle. Maybe during the medal rounds but sheesh, the games are all over the map time wise and I'm left waiting for a match up worthy of making the time to watch. No NHL no trades and no games for 3 weeks doesn't do it for me. How does everyone else feel?

Players where there is not a single doubt that they play for the front of the jersey instead of the name on the back.

Better atmosphere than 99% of regular season games

Would have been better quality wise with Russians there, true.

But US Canada Sweden Finland quarter, semi of final games on prime time beats any Stanley cup playoff game if blues are not playing for me at least.

I miss NHL hockey, but if the players want to do it I'm OK with it. At least it's not every year. I don't even try to keep up with game scheduals. I record and watch what /when I want to.

I’m w/ the school that I think if the players want to play they should be allowed to.

That said I couldn’t give less of a f*ck who wins if I tried. If the US loses I’m happy, but that’s just cuz I’m a contrarian jerk.

Bless all the folks who feel nationalistic pride, but I’m a dissident by nature so none of this stuff lands with me.

And with Peacock, can watch games after work without commercials (except between periods).

I’m with you. Have watched maybe 10 minutes of one period. I’m ready for the trade deadline, NHL games, and the playoff race, even without the Blues.

Nothing against the Olympics, just not my cup of tea I guess.

I'm fine with it short of wanting to know and too lazy to look up what it has done and how it has impacted the regular season schedule and if it has skewed normality in any teams favor.

Also, injury outcome particularly for those teams chasing the play offs but for all teams actually.

I think the best of this event is about to come to reality and I expect to be entertained rather well!

The Olympics aren't what they used to be. Maybe they will come back, but if they go away, no tears here.

Me too. I didn't enjoy the Four Nations or the Olympics. I've lost interest since they started using the pro players instead of the amateurs. I don't like the interruption in the season, or my team's players getting hurt. The WJC gives me the nationalism fix.

Well, I don’t think shutting down the league for three weeks is worth it, I do find it funny how people look back nostalgically at amateurs in the Olympics even though there really hasn’t been amateurs in the Olympics and parts of the world for 50 or 60 years at least. There is a great amateur hockey tournament every year called the world juniors.

There is a great amateur hockey tournament every year called the world juniors.

NHL players didn't start playing in the Olympic until 1998, which was 28 years ago, not "50-60 years at least". Russia didn't use professional players. They just had players that trained fifteen hours a day as their job. They didn't play in a professional league and they weren't paid well.

C’mon the Russians were beating NHL all stars. Them, the Czechs and the East Germans were amateur in name only. With the money involved, there is no top level amateur sports anymore.
