Then to call this meaningless. For all European and other time zones giving fans a chance to wacht stars instead of middle of the night.
It’s about growing the sport and that is what’s being done if you watch the games, see the stands and hear the fans singing. Players learn more about playing high stakes here than playing for #8 playoff seed from October to February… Stop feeling sorry for billionaire owners.
And yeah Russians included would have made the tournament even more interesting, but they could decide to stop arming every drone with a bomb and terrorize people 150 km from the front line that need to buy a bread for their family…
I’m not talking 42 NHL teams or whatever Im saying if more kids from Europe Asia or whatever decide they find it a cool sport then the end product would be better… kids picking hockey in Germany over football etc etc you get it I hope.

Is the game better now or in 1993? If you say now, we’re just polar opposites. All of this “growing the sport” has certainly made it a much more boring product to me. Yeah, we see a lot more skill these days. Has it improved the sport with so many similarities in style? I don’t think so.Sunny's Teeth wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 17:49 pmThe irony of course being that what you’re suggesting is the direct opposite of watering down the game.DutchBlue wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 16:17 pmQuite the cosmopolitan view you have…ShakeyWalton wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 11:35 amWhy do you need to grow the game? I certainly liked it better then, but I’d argue that’s a function of rule changes versus “growing the game”. A product with today’s speed and talent level and yesteryear’s rules and norms would be something to behold IMO.ShakeyWalton wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 20:26 pmIs the game better now or in 1993? And the team medical insurance doesn’t have to cover it.

That doesn't change the fact that Russia currently isn't playing.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 21:42 pmRussia can fix the ban anytime it wants.ShakeyWalton wrote: ↑14 Feb 2026 10:46 amI'd call it extremely meaningless with the Russians not allowed to play.Army's Mom wrote: ↑14 Feb 2026 10:19 amI wouldnt call it "meaningless" and I dont feel the least bit sorry for billionaire owners. Yup...I saw a video of Panarin and Ovechkin personally arming the drones and then letting Kucherov fly them into enemy territory -

It's not even about the war - it's about cutting Russia off from the rest of the world. They were banned before the war over steroid/doping....something that never ever happens in the USA.

Wow you might just be as smart as Balotelli is!BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 08:17 amYup...I saw a video of Panarin and Ovechkin personally arming the drones and then letting Kucherov fly them into enemy territory -
BTW Ovie and Putin were best buddies, so who knows!
In the meantime if you are going to be smart about performance enhancing drugs, look up DDR and Soviet stats during Olympics and then compare that to US stats... Heidi Kruger is a nice story! Or just take world championship swimming stats. Ah well why trust independent agencies etc when you can also inform yourself via X right?

Countries are responsible for wars. Said country got removed from international play because they started a war where they bomb civilians virtually every day so not a problem with them not being at the Olympics.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 09:14 amI'm not the clown pretending that hockey players are responsible for war.

And Israel wasn't bombing civilians? Answer me with a straight face.LGB73 wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 09:29 amCountries are responsible for wars. I'd ban Israel too. Not quite sure the US should be included either.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 09:37 amAnd Israel wasn't bombing civilians? Re: Fiala out for nhl season
Russia hasn’t participated in the Olympics as a nation in 10 years after the huge doping and then coverup scandal reaching the highest levels of the Russian govt, have they even been reinstated by the IOC to participate on those grounds?
IMO based on that alone they should still be on suspension as that scandal was brutal and an embarrassment for the IOC. Missing 5 Olympics should have been the minimum any way .

Re: Fiala out for nhl season
Jeez Mario now coming up with completely different narrative, but sure. Indeed skipped the whole doping coverup, but sure he is not the brightest.
Last time i checked Ukraine wasn't responsible for anything in Russia before February 2022 and clearly not for a 12x deadlier terror attack than 9/11 which occurred in Israel. Should Israel be there, probably not with their current government still in place.
And it is not even virtually every day, it is simply just every day. So completely fine that their players cannot participate, does not make the tournament meaningless.

Israel should have been banned. Some satisfaction may de derived from their, miserable and medal-less, performance thus far.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 09:37 amAnd Israel wasn't bombing civilians?
