Walker mentions working with my buddy Eric Cressey. https://ericcressey.com/ I have mentioned Eric on this site several times. Check out some of his baseball podcasts. They are really good.

How's that help his pitch recognition and his fielding?Voldemort wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 19:53 pm https://www.mlb.com/cardinals/news/jord ... -cardinals

I don't know all of the things that they worked on so I can't say. I do know that Eric promotes "connection" and loading both the hips and scapula. In doing all three correctly, a hitter has created a more efficient swing, which, in turn, should enable the hitter to have more time to recognize pitches and adjust their swing.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 19:57 pmHow's that help his pitch recognition and his fielding?Voldemort wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 19:53 pm https://www.mlb.com/cardinals/news/jord ... -cardinals

A sample of hip and scap relationships:

Walker said that he felt himself falling forward sometimes when hitting. In other words, he was having a hard time taking pelvic tilt to lateral tilt. Pujol's video shows how to do it correctly.

When I watched Albert I knew I was seeing greatness, and that was still under rating him. He looked bad less than anyone.

If he has to think about all the things he needs or believes he needs to correct he'll never hit.
From what I know about hitting the more you have to think the worse off you're going to be.

Yes but if you practice something enough it could translate. I am not saying that will be the case with Walker , but if it's broke you have to try and fix it. He had a scholarship to Duke and was going to get into engineering. You would think he would be smart enough to get it down.11WSChamps wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 20:40 pm If he has to think about all the things he needs or believes he needs to correct he'll never hit.

Yes, and the old golf adage, "Think long, think wrong," applies. The trick then is to mechanically get to the point where you can "see white and react." There is an old adage in fastpitch softball that goes, "dance with the pitcher." That can apply to baseball as well. Hudgens, an old school hitting coach, believed that when the front heel hit, the hitter via hip rotation should be transitioning to coming on the back toe. IOWs, "heel/toe." Look at the Pujols clip, and you'll see it. When that is mastered, a hitter can sit and hit with the ability to adjust. The only problem with this the,n is the changeup, but a good changeup is tough for any hitter.11WSChamps wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 20:40 pm If he has to think about all the things he needs or believes he needs to correct he'll never hit.

And fortunately not a lot of pitchers are going to have a good change up and others are hesitant to use especially the young guns coming up.Voldemort wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 22:04 pmYes, and the old golf adage, "Think long, think wrong," applies. Im thinking his major gain has to be pitch recognition.
His strength and exit velocity can hide some of the mechanical flaws.
It can become too complex with so much advice coming from so many sources I can only imagine and now with new coaches and a new regime if you will.

"The reason I feel like I wasn't [swinging more often at in-zone pitches] is I was afraid to chase," Walker said. "I was crashing, as I said, and not seeing the ball as well. Giving myself a better chance to hit, I'll be able to track it better. I’ll feel like I have more time. Now if it's in the zone, I'll be more confident and attack."

I will await the video evidence in May, June, and July.
Seems prudent.

Yep. Just like common sense; if you gotta think about it, your wrong.11WSChamps wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 20:40 pm If he has to think about all the things he needs or believes he needs to correct he'll never hit.
