This infatuation by some pundits with Wallstedt as being a fit with the Blues (especially as a centerpiece in a Thomas deal) is really odd. Especially when you have an equal young talent in Hofer. Wallstedt was hot playing behind a good defense and then came back to earth especially as shooters began to get the book on him. Does anyone think he would outperform Hofer in the same situation or to an extent that it would warrant trading Thomas/ Crazy talk. Of all our needs goaler is way way down the list.

I think it's less about the Blues having a need for a goalie, and more about them wanting to manifest Thomas to MN, and MN's best trade chip being Wallstedt.

That, and I would assume Wallstedt is more highly regarded than Hofer. When drafted, he was touted as the next great goalie. I don't recall as much expectation around Hofer - while that's not the end all, be all metric, I don't think either has done enough to really change the narrative around them.

Agree with so many others here that there are much better trade fits for Thomas and the Blues than MN.
