Cheap DH anyone?
The Phillies released Castellanos, so he is available for the league minimum now. Which team will pick him up?
Re: Cheap DH anyone?
I don't doubt he could have a rebound year. Busch is a bigger park. Maybe something like .270 with 30 doubles 18 hr 75 rbi is achievable?
Re: Cheap DH anyone?
Have any of you even read why the Phillies were so anxious to get rid of him? He’s the exact opposite of the type of player you want tutoring young players! I don’t care if he could hit like Pujols, the guy can be a real jerk! Please move on to somebody else.
Re: Cheap DH anyone?
No, I am not in favor of the Cardinals signing him. Just wondering if any team needing a DH and with nothing to lose might take a chance on him for a year.

Re: Cheap DH anyone?
I agree. I was all for picking him up until I found out the beef started with the manager because he was angry at the manager for taking him out late in a game for a defensive replacement then brought in a beer into the dugout because he was angry and was going to drink it of Kendrick didn’t take it from him. He’s one of if not the worst defensive outfielder in baseball if you don’t want to be taken out for defense work harder to become a better defensive outfielder or become a better teammate and understand it’s better for the team if they take you out late in a game and gives the team a better chance to win because you’re so bad defensively
Re: Cheap DH anyone?
In a year where the team is rebuilding/restructuring and trying to find out which young players might become players --- why p/u a 34 yr old dh with a stone glove to take playing time from anyone in a likely lost season?
Re: Cheap DH anyone?
Why is no one attempting to answer the question I posed in the OP?
Re: Cheap DH anyone?
it depends on what Castellanos is looking for --- if he wants to catch on with a contender he may need to sit tight and collect his $20 million until someone goes down to injury. If he is just looking to play some more billy bean will hire him so he can tell him the phillies are paying him to play against them
Re: Cheap DH anyone?
Castellanos will get offers from which to choose since any team taking a flyer on him would only be paying the MLB minimum salary.
A bottom feeder hoping to catch lightning in a bottle and flip him at the deadline (if he is hitting well) is the most likely scenario.
Rockies and White Sox might fit.

Two very likely suspects. I would add the Nationals to this list.Melville wrote: ↑12 Feb 2026 22:18 pmCastellanos will get offers from which to choose since any team taking a flyer on him would only be paying the MLB minimum salary.

To answer your question directly- No. The Cardinals have two players who very well may not make it as position players (Herrera and Gorman). Also, the character issues matter. You don't want to normalize his behavior to players learning to conduct themselves as major leaguers.
