Andrew McCutchen

Post by FrankTheTank »

I looked through a couple pages to see if there was already a topic about him, sorry if I missed it. I am on board with signing him to a 1-year deal, I think he would be great in the clubhouse and with the younger guys (pretty much the entire team now), plus he is used to playing on bad teams.
Last year he signed a 1-year, $5 million dollar contract. I see no reason not to give him that for one season of mentorship and the occasional clutch base hit. I know, he is 39 but he can still play.

Plus, I don't think he is too happy with how the Pirates signed Ozuna, closing the door on his return, so the chance to play the Pirates 19 times this season probably doesn't hurt.

if he was cool with taking a very part-time role at a reasonable contract price, i could see very little downside to having him around

Correct. At his age, he's a replacement level player. What is the point?

I think the fanbase is just over it with geriatric has beens with a primary/only sales pitch of “mentoring”

I think there’s more to be had here. If. You were in need of an elder statesman this may be the role model.

He can still hit and field enough. Would greatly help Walker and Church-left, and cheap.

Has potential to develop into an off the bench weapon.
