When i look at the laundry list of roster issues this year one big one is the "bottom six"
They are a mish mash of young guys, UFAs and fringe NHLers. There isnt cohesion, they arent particularly hard to play against they are kinda physical.
The 3rd line needs to be able to check and produce
The 4th line needs to be hard to play against, check, skate and score a little
Adding a guy like Finley could move to establish some more of this Fabbri, Joseph, maybe a Walker have to go.
I think it establishes that Sunny will be traded. Joseph probably goes to but this move has nothing to do with that as Joseph will be replaced by guys that were already here.
Fabbri I kind of like as an extra forward if there are no decent offers I'm ok with him sticking around next year.
Im not sure about it meaning Sunny goes (although he absolutely could).
I think this is just a straight up replacement for Bjugstad.
I see Jospeh going if/when we can find a taker with Stenberg taking his spot.
I don't see why Sunny wouldn't be going, win, win, win for him, the Blues, and the team that gets him.
I'd be pretty shocked if Sunny is not traded to A contender/playoff team.
We didn't/don't need to replace Bjugstad or Joseph from outside the organization really with Dvorsky being here full time and Stenberg ready.
I think people are underestimating how many forwards we have right now.
I don't think anyone is underestimating. But the guys I would expect to stay are guys that I'm assuming the Blues are interested in "trying out" for next year. The one thing the Blues have going for them in the next 2 seasons, is that they can get good fast if the young players develop and others return to some kind of form. They have a lot of cap space in 2 years. They have next year to basically figure out the direction they are going forward with. I assumed next years cap space was going to be gobbled up by broberg and Hollywood. Broberg signed a pretty reasonable contract, and now I expect Hollywood to take a bridge deal to see if he can't get into the big pay day by staying healthy. So the Blues have room to make 1 legit signing or 2 medium ones if everything stayed the same. (it isn't going to)
So I say all that because like you said, Sunny should be moving on. He at the very least might just be a trade somewhere else and possibly perron it and sign back here since he likes the city, that's if the Blues decide he's useful. The Fabbri/Joseph/Berg group, whoever is left from there I assume is playing for an extension with this current roster. It sounds like from JR yesterday that they are really entertaining the idea of full shutdown of Hollywood to make the best decision to either get surgery or full rehab ankle with 0 expectation of playing this year.
The Blues have been ravaged by injuries at the forward position which has given us a glut of people, but in no way do I see fabbri as someone who survives unless they are getting real interest for Joseph and Sunny. Fabbri has already had the coach say, if it wasn't a skill thing and was purely effort based, fabbri would be in the lineup everyday.
