Re: Wallstedt for Robert Thomas Rumor
Not sure why the Blues would even take this phone call unless there is a larger package coming back to STL.
The Blues look to be set at goalie going forward with Hofer i dont see the Blues spending any major assets on that position.
Wasnt Hofer a two time gold winner at juniors?
Since being drafted in '18 Hofer is right there with Spence Knight, Kochetkov, Dustin Wolf as the best younger NHL goalies.
Blues would obviously need a legit center coming back a goalie makes zero sense

This doesn't really stand up to scrutiny when you break it down into two distinct trades.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑09 Feb 2026 21:51 pm How about a 3-way along these lines?
Thomas to Minnesota
Walstedt to Detroit
Faulk to Detroit.
Danielson to St Louis
Cossa to St Louis
Pelika to St Louis
Faber to St Louis
Trade #1:
Thomas to Minnesota
Wallstedt and Faber to St. Louis
Minnesota is looking to go "all in" after the Hughes trade, and are trying to add the best piece they can (top center) to pair with their core of Hughes, KK, Boldy, and Faber. They aren't looking to trade a core piece (Faber, or Boldy) for a different core piece (Thomas). They are looking to trade some, or maybe all, of their remaining chips (Wallstead, Yurov, Stramel, 2027 1st, maybe even Jiricek) to get another core piece.
Trade #2:
Wallstedt and Faulk to Detroit
Danielson, Cossa, Pelika to St. Louis
Seems like an overpayment by Detroit to say the least.
I think Detroit could put a better package together for Thomas than Minnesota could. They let the Wild outbid them for Hughes, would they do the same with Thomas? I'm not even sure if all the pieces the Wild have remaining (Wallstedt, Yurov, Stramel, 2027 1st) are enough to get Thomas, I think several teams could outbid the Wild (not to mention you get Thomas out of division with other teams).

Re: Wallstedt for Robert Thomas Rumor
My guess is without any knowledge that Thomas would more likely waive a NTC for Detroit than Minnesota.rbirules wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 09:35 amThis doesn't really stand up to scrutiny when you break it down into two distinct trades.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑09 Feb 2026 21:51 pm How about a 3-way along these lines?

Re: Wallstedt for Robert Thomas Rumor
Hofer has shown too much promise to move on for some other future goalie prospect. That alone makes this trade for bozos. Wallstedt had an other worldly November, Solid December, and come back to Jesus January where he was .881. Hofer had a trash start, followed by a .928 december and an up and down finish since then.rbirules wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 09:35 amThis doesn't really stand up to scrutiny when you break it down into two distinct trades.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑09 Feb 2026 21:51 pm How about a 3-way along these lines?

the worrying part could be Hofer's career stats as they have trended downward. But, he's delivered more shutout performances this year than the previous 2 seasons combined and he's had 30 30 30 starts in those 3 seasons. To me that's telling that the big game potential is there. Gotta figure out the how to be a pro part.
Thomas being dealt is going to require a similar player in his position to come back. In some form or another, the Blues would have to be able to have someone who can play 1C. They might have stabilized themselves for next year, maybe even 2 with Dvo and Buchy if Buchy is really a center now. Maybe the middle 6 is fine. But you can't play hockey without a 1C. It's one of the most valuable commodities in hockey. A goalie competition would be silly to sign up for.

Here is another way to look at it.
Detroit:
Detroit has cycled through many prospects over the years, and they understand better than most the value of a one solid prospect in hand in the NHL versus 3 in the bush league. So yes, they will gladly take Waldstedt in exchange for prospects in the bush leagues. Walstedt would be seen as solidifying their goaltending for their "run over the next 7 years".
Minnesota:
They need a 2C for their run. By giving up Buium and the rest for Hughes, they have already pushed all their chips into the pot of the present. Thomas would solidify their 2C for their run.
St Louis:
Thomas is a very average 1C, and it will be 4 years before he could moved to be a superior 2C in St Louis. By that time, his prime is over. To whatever team that Thomas moves, it will be to 2C where he will best succeed. Army wants to start over at finding the long-term 1C. Army also values Goalies more than most. He will gladly bank 2 solid ones, Hofer and Cossa. Army also wants some lower picks in his pocket in this draft and next. He has no 2nd round picks in 2026 and 2027.
Re: Wallstedt for Robert Thomas Rumor

I think we would have to sacrifice 4 first round picks just to trade you to another hokey board.... but trust me if we found a willng trade partner we would all agree to send you there lmfaoa smell of green grass wrote: ↑09 Feb 2026 22:16 pmNah. Re: Wallstedt for Robert Thomas Rumor
Detroit needing a proven standout young goalie is much more believable than the Blues needing one... The point of my sample 3-way trade is to show that "Walstedt for Thomas" is more believable if it is just part of a multi-team deal.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 10:47 amYou spent the time typing something that doesnt defend your point. Re: Wallstedt for Robert Thomas Rumor
Bottom line I think with anything involving Thomas is that we'd need so much in return for him that it won't make sense for the other team.
He is essentially much more valuable to us than he is to any practical trading partner. And he's not a problem we'd like to rid ourselves of. I'd be completely shocked if he got moved somehow, and trading him for just a goalie would be cause for immediate front office sackings.
