Wallstedt for Robert Thomas Rumor

Post by John Cocktoastin »

Would ya?

The Wild are reportedly open to moving Wallstedt, their 23-year-old stud netminder, in a package to acquire a legitimate first-line center. The primary target? St. Louis Blues playmaker Robert Thomas.

Wallstedt has been nothing short of spectacular this season. Pairing with Filip Gustavsson to form one of the league’s elite tandems, he leads all rookie goalies with a 2.72 GAA and a .914 save percentage. He is the future. But with Gustavsson locked up through the 2030-31 season, Wallstedt has suddenly become the Wild’s most valuable—and perhaps expendable—trade chip.

You never pay a premium asset for a goalie. Under no circumstance should Thomas be traded to Minn as they do not have the assets the Blues should be looking for in return by a long shot. This is bogus clickbait.

Russo is a legit journalist for the Athletic and has covered the Wild.

If were trading a center we better be get a center back. And way too much for a goalie, they don't return very much.

He maybe could be a piece of a big deal but if the Wild are getting Thomas, then Faber is coming back. Non-negotiable.

But a trade like this in division? I just don't see it.

Russo works for the Athletic and reports mainly on the Wild...if you can't see the correlation on why he might put this out there in order to get more Wild fans to visit the Athletic, then I don't know what to tell you.

It's a slow time for hockey. Of course he's putting it out there. He makes some legit points. That's all.

If the Blues did trade Thomas, it won't be to Minnesota. Best guess based on what could be offered/what Blues would want (ie a legit possible # 1 center and other premium assets) would be Detroit, Montreal, Boston - (other conference - good young centers Kasper, Hage, Haggens). Ideally would be Utah but Thomas might not want to go there and they are in Blues division.

the Blues would not be acquiring another young goalie. Hofer is most likely the future. He's 25 and is highly regarded around the league. Why would the Blues trade their best asset for one they actually have at the moment. If and When the Blues move on from Binner, they are just going to acquire someone to keep the net warm. Especially now that Harenstam showed some early progress. Just need to find someone who can back up Hofer for 2 years. And that might even be a binner extension as I doubt a lot of people are going to be looking at him to be the answer after this years performance.

hell no

i'm not giving away a top line centerman for a goalie

for a thomas, whos cost controlled, and could get 10mil as a ufa, i want a young stud forward whos a year or 2 away, and a young stud dman whos on the roster

thomas has a ton of value

Lol....if that were the trade, then Matt Boldy and a prospect like Charlie Stramel better be coming back in the deal along with Wallstedt. Overall, this is just clickbait.

Why entertain this garbage? Some drunk or mushroom-induced version of the bots here face-planting keyboards around Bomac's backyard fire-pit.

Then drill down to the words: The latest rumblings from Michael Russo at The Athletic suggest that GM Bill Guerin is finally ready to take a massive swing, and it involves the one prospect we thought was untouchable: Jesper Wallstedt.

The rumor is massive. The Wild are reportedly open to moving Wallstedt ....

Weak words, weak thoughts, weak reality.

from Grok: However, the specific Wallstedt-for-Thomas swap (even with the added 1st and Hartman) seems more like fan speculation or a hypothetical from rumor accounts rather than a confirmed, imminent deal: Reports indicate the Blues have set a very high asking price for Thomas (a 26-year-old point-per-game caliber playmaker signed through 2031 at $8.125M AAV, with a full no-trade clause). Acquiring him would likely require significantly more than one young goalie prospect + assets—possibly multiple top prospects or additional picks/players.
Reliable outlets (e.g., The Athletic, Spector's Hockey, Daily Faceoff) note that landing Thomas would take "a lot more than Wallstedt," and any blockbuster like this is more likely in the offseason than before the March 6 trade deadline (due to cap constraints and the ongoing Olympic break freeze until Feb. 22).
Wallstedt has been shopped in rumors for centers like Vincent Trocheck, Dylan Cozens (Ottawa), or others, but Thomas is repeatedly called out as an "elite" target that would demand an overpay from Minnesota.
No major insiders (e.g., Elliotte Friedman, Darren Dreger) have directly confirmed this exact package or serious talks between MIN and STL for Thomas involving Wallstedt.

Hard to believe in a way, but....

1. MN may be one of the teams that Thomas would accept.

2. Few GMs understand the value of a good goalie like Army. No Binny no Cuppy for Army.

3. When Putin and the whole world knows that you'll trade a guy, you best get it done.
