Is this the same Edmonton that drafted our current best young defenseman and winger? Is this the same Edmonton that had the prospect pool that Army coveted so much that he risked offer sheets?BluesDom wrote: ↑27 Jan 2026 14:01 pmEdmonton made many drafting errors. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/tea ... 05632.htmla smell of green grass wrote: ↑27 Jan 2026 13:57 pmI hope to hear that the Blues are preparing for a TOP5 draft pick because the chances are high that they will get one.
I hope to hear that in response to that they are preforming scouting like they have never done before in 20 years. There should be a Blues tent outside every skating venue where the anticipated TOP5 are playing. Or, to be simple, the Blues should be doing what Colorado, Edmonton, and Carolina do to nail elite talent often. The Blues DO NOT need to be scouting AS MUCH the many 3rd-liners that come into play when you pick around #15.

Yes. Same team. They lost for a lot of years. We havent had to do that and Im glad.
They botched several #1 picks. Lots of mistakes. (for all GM's)
Hit or miss business. Edmontons two biggest gets McDavid and Draisaitl.

Re: Are the Blues Scouts preparing for a TOP5 pick?
Before anybody else makes excuses for the Blues along the lines of "every GM makes mistakes...", please read carefully.
It has NOT BEEN POSSIBLE for Army to make a mistake in the draft in the last 20 years!!! Why? Because when you pick #15 or lower, THERE IS NO EXPECTATION that the prospect will succeed, or even make the NHL. There is a very low chance that a #15 pick will be drafted ahead of the hidden "Ovechkin", and if it does happen other MANY OTHER GMs made the same mistake, so no one GM can be blamed. They are drafted between other 3rd-liners, and 3 years later, no one cares that Team A found a 3rd-liner.... that Team B should have found.
As an example, if Lindstein never makes the NHL, will Army be blamed? Nope! The prospect will be blamed! They just didn't have the talent, etc.
Summary:
Army has NEVER been tested in the NHL draft. To date, Army could never "fail" visibly. So yes, you better be concerned about what our GM is doing to prepare for the draft of a TOP5 pick. The stakes are much higher this year than ever before.

You have very interesting perspective young man. Trying so hard.
The Blues will trade back in the draft if we pick top 5. We will trade back to #15 where we feel more comfortable.

Re: Are the Blues Scouts preparing for a TOP5 pick?
Possibly that will happen.
I definitely predict that something will happen to move the Blues to #15. This could be a March winning streak. It could be a trade. I am 75% certain that Army will move to where he is "comfortable" as you say.
And that is why I want to know if the Blues are scouting like they may get a TOP5 pick. What are the Blue scouts doing differently this year than they have done in the last 20 years?!!!
My prediction:
If the Blues scouts are doing nothing different, this means that THEY KNOW THAT WE WON'T BE GETTING A TOP5 PICK, and therefore they also know that we won't be getting an elite player for the roster, and lastly they know that we are going to compete forevermore with nothing but a cast of 3rd liners....
And if all this comes to pass.....
I predict that I will quit following the Blues after many years. I'm not playing second fiddle to the important NHL Cities that get the McDavids, Crosbys, and Ovechkins. I say FFF them if that is the case. They can move to some other city, and I wouldn't give a dammm.

Re: Are the Blues Scouts preparing for a TOP5 pick?
Do we have agreement on BluesTalk that if the Blues don't get a TOP5 pick in the 2026 draft that the Blues are purposefully sabotaging that result? If yes, then I believe that I was also 100% spot on over the last 2 years that the Blues operate this way across many years, and the NHL is very happy to oblige them on this.
FACTS:
We don't hear that the Blues are scouting the top players diligently.
There is no evidence of scouts on the benches watching the top players.
When the Blues do comment on the return for their SELL veterans, they say "We don't want draft picks, we want young players". Why the disdain for draft picks? Draft picks is what every other team covets.

Listen to the idiocy starting at the 32-minute mark. This thought pattern matches Army's: "players are needed, not picks".

What the Blues are MISSING is elite players, and those are found at top of the NHL draft. Look around the NHL, it's quite easy to see.
The Blues haven't drafted high in 20 years. That is why we don't have elite players like all other teams.

It looks more and more like the Blues will have a TOP5 pick. I sure hope that the Blues scouts are sticking to the top players like glue so that they pick the best player. This is the most important draft selection by the Blues in the last 20 years.

At least it would keep most of his skull in one place when the Blues trade out and his head explodes.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑27 Jan 2026 11:46 am Little known fact - the OP's doctor recommended that he wear a helmet when playing hockey and also for when he's not.

The internet reveals that Vancouver, Chicago, Rangers and the other losing teams are HEAVILY SCOUTING the top-tier talent in the 2026 draft. This makes sense.
Conversely, the internet reveals NO HINT OF THAT by the St Louis Blues.. Why?
It's time to start asking questions, Sports Fans.

Almost all the teams pick the BPA. The Blues pick will be determined for them by whoever picks 1st, 2nd etc....
Re: Are the Blues Scouts preparing for a TOP5 pick?
LOL! The LAST thing you want is a GM and organization with lots of experience drafting top 5.

The last thing you want is an organization in dead last after telling you that the rebuild is over, and this year would be 5% better than the playoff year.
It is understandable if the pom pom squad is delusional, but when it's your GM, it raises concerns.
It is also understandable that the pom pom squad would trust 100% this same GM to make high draft choices. However, people don't grow new brains at age 65.
Re: Are the Blues Scouts preparing for a TOP5 pick?
How would you know? Are you 65 (or past?). There's a good chance I've forgotten more than you know.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑09 Feb 2026 17:59 pmThe last thing you want is an organization in dead last after telling you that the rebuild is over, and this year would be 5% better than the playoff year.

You know what? We do not choose the GM. At 65 you know not to fret over things you do not control.
