only 34 YO, Terrance Gore, RIP

tragic to die that young.

Longtime Royals outfielder and pinch-running specialist Terrance Gore passed away yesterday at age 34. According to a social media post from Gore’s wife Britney, Gore unexpectedly passed following what was supposed to be a routine surgical procedure.

A veteran of eight Major League seasons, Gore had one of the more unique careers of any player in baseball history. Gore played in 112 big league games, but made only 14 starts and 85 trips to the plate, as Gore was almost exclusively utilized as a pinch-running specialist. Gore didn’t hit much in the majors (.216/.310/.270 over his 85 PA) or even in the minor leagues, yet he carved out a niche for himself due to his glovework and blazing speed.

That’s incredibly sad. Way too young at 34…

I’m sure it’s hard to comprehend for his family losing him from a routine surgery. Just terrible.

Lighter note regarding his career, I think it’s totally awesome how he turned a limited (albeit elite) baserunning/defensive specialist skillset into 3 World Series rings. Not sure many other players could claim roster spots on 3 World Series winning teams with only 85 career PAs. Pretty cool.

Devastating to all involved.

Numbing even from this far away from the situation.

Quite a few people die each year just from the anesthesia. I don't know the situation but any time you go under the knife it could be your last. Very sad.
