Olympic Freeze Trade Talk

Post by callitwhatyouwant »

This is a 2 parter. First, I'd be weary of any trade rumors you hear during the Olympic freeze. Unless the rumor starts with "I have spoken with xyz GM or xyz player and am open to moving after the Olympics. This is especially true concerning any player at the Olympics. There are obvious reasons those rules have been put in place, and my assumption is you won't see a lot of info until way closer to february 22nd when the freeze is lifted. The GM's are allowed to have discussions, but I doubt stuff with credible movement is going to be getting out in the open.

Most is going to be boring beat writers and fans who are trying to keep their job looking seemingly important and fan wish list.

2nd, Does someone want to start a megathread for anything that isn't specific to being a real rumor? In the last 48 hours we have had 8-10 threads pop up about fan made theories, whether from other teams fans, or our own just speculating. That's more a question I present to you guys, especially the ones that actually are into that stuff. I used to be all over NFL draft combine / trade stuff way back in the day. I get where it's interesting for some. I just think that if the present course keeps, the board is going to have 100+ new trade topics and 80 of them are going to surround the same 4 players.

Good luck. I hope your idea is successful at least to some degree. Some people just like to start threads as soon as they read a message board. Oh well. But yes. This is the official olympic freeze trade talk thread. Any others that are started will be considered unofficial.

for sure I get it. I usually just look the front page whenever I think i see something new that is substantial.

I didn't intend for this to be the thread. Was more just proposing the question. Anyone is welcome to create a thread with some parameters for the people who are interested in that kind of thing. I will probably turn my brain off to trade talks unless it physically comes across my phone regarding the Blues. But I highly doubt that will happen since nothing is supposed to be official, just allowed to talk.

In your heart of hearts--who actually gets moved at the deadline:
Im trying to be realistic. My opinions.
Binnner--for 2nd or 3rd
Faulk--1st prospect
Schenn--3rd

You think Schenn only brings back a 3rd? I was hoping for a late first, due to his intangibles. At least a 2nd and a mid prospect.
I think there will be a surprise trade that we didn't expect. Somebody that we think is probably not tradeable, due to contract, but we get him traded anyway.

I wouldn't trade Schenn for a 3rd. It would be the most ridiculous thing to do. Schenn doesn't even want to leave. If this was his last year, maybe next year, I'd listen to what some contenders had to say and do him a solid. But you are talking about 3 years of 3rd to 4th line schenn? You aren't taking the 3rd round pick which almost always amounts to nothing.

If Schenn only brings back a third, then Schenn doesn’t get traded. That’s a net-negative that does nothing but kill depth and lower payroll.

I’d rather he be Captain on the 3rd/4th line than dump his salary for a 3rd Rounder

I think Schenn has to bring a first to make it worth it.

I would take a 2nd and an above middle prospect back, possibly. We currently have no second round picks. Obviously a 1st if you can get it would be best, but depending how late the first is, it may be no worse than a 2nd and a prospect. IMO

For me I think its about the negotiating power, with Schenn not being A UFA its not the end of the world if you hold out until the last minute for a 1st and don't get it.

Pretty safe gamble for me, obviously there are a lot of pick prospect/packages I'd take but thats pretty hard to predict/discuss.
