A Tale of 2 Retools
The goal is to build a Stanley Cup winner, not a team just hoping to get in as the last wild card. - Rangers GM
And then there is the Blues GM and Steen, the AI version of "What would Doug Armstrong Do?"

The Rangers had the 1st overall in 2020 and the 2nd overall in 2019 and they're.... starting over on another rebuild. Drury is great. Rangers fan love him and his clear-eyed direction.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑05 Feb 2026 06:45 am The goal is to build a Stanley Cup winner, not a team just hoping to get in as the last wild card. - Rangers GM

Re: A Tale of 2 Retools
Those were bad years to draft high combined with missing on who they did pick and surrounding them with overpaid veterans. Drury is a bum.bluetunehead wrote: ↑05 Feb 2026 13:47 pmThe Rangers had the 1st overall in 2020 and the 2nd overall in 2019 and they're.... starting over on another rebuild. Drury is great. I know I should know better, but do you think about your post before you make them? This post stands out as ridiculous like another one you made in the past where you compared the blues to the Rams at the end of their St. Louis tenure. I’m just curious.

At least the Rangers GM had a good plan.bluetunehead wrote: ↑05 Feb 2026 13:47 pmThe Rangers had the 1st overall in 2020 and the 2nd overall in 2019 and they're.... starting over on another rebuild. Which brings me to my next issue. What evidence do we have that Army will select the best player even when he selects high? He may pull a Ranger's GM move.
Re: A Tale of 2 Retools
You’re using the New York Rangers as an example. The guys they chose in the draft haven’t panned out. What the heck are you talking about? You’re going back on ignore you’re such a moron

It doesn't understand risk.

With every action there are 2 parts.
1) Plan
2) Execute
This post is about PLAN, not EXECUTE.
Thankful that BluesDumb ignores "deep" thinking like this. Someday. Maybe. When he passes 2nd grade.

The BOT is breaking again. When was the last time the Rangers won the Stanley Cup? Were the twin towers attacked 1 2 or 0 times at that point? Blues and Doug Armstrong have been way more relevant than the Rangers for the last 15 years.
Re: A Tale of 2 Retools
The team that just sold off their best player for pennies on the dollar?

Hes trying to give the rangers credit for writing a note to their fans. Thats the holy grail he is standing on.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑05 Feb 2026 16:14 pmYounghopp1991 wrote: ↑05 Feb 2026 15:58 pm *caution*

Rangers
Othmann, Kako, Lafreinere, Kravtsov. Andersson, and Gabe Perrault--all relatively recent 1sts. Not impressed at all. Not Greaat... Big misses.
Blues drafts crushed them. I disagree with this whole thread. Its fake.

Have to agree with the Rangers GM. The goal should be to build a team that could win a cup. Not hope to make a splash IF they make the playoffs.
I find it weak tea to talk about what didn't work out, instead what should be the goal. Not everything works
But two things for sure. Only Vegas got a cup without a rebuild and the teams pointed at as reasons not to tank. Will usually only get point at for a few years before some new team has to be made the example.
Also. Them different people there in New York. They don't have to not like the gm to talk truth about what he has done. Loyalty is to the team. Here the dogs dig in their heels if they like who you are talking about more then who is giving the message. Truth be damned, for those that like their strongman.
As for Steen. I don't know who he will be as gm. I feel he is being set up as a patsy. I think Army hanging around was a precondition and something Steen had no say in.
I just hope Steen makes his own moves and isn't the type who would try to take credit for players drafted while army is gm. That would speak much about who Steen is.
