Bloom’s Rebuild Began In 2024
Make no mistake, Bloom is not just rebuilding the team, he’s rebuilding the ENTIRE organization. Analytics, scouting, drafting, player development, even training. This all began in 2024 when Bloom was hired as a “consultant”. His job was to inspect and examine the organization from top to bottom to see what (and who) should be kept, repaired or replaced. Then in 2025, his job was to implement those changes. The foundation and infrastructure in place, necessary to do the rebuild right, he could begin remaking the team. He and his new staff had time to analyze the market and the prospects to target. One of the things Tampa has managed to do is to find gems in other teams systems that have flown under the radar. I see the Cardinals making moves to qualify for the playoffs in 27 with an eye to contending in 28. If the work done in 24-25 pays off, they will.

That would have been a trick since he wasn't employed by them as GM then.Red7 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 21:50 pm Make no mistake, Bloom is not just rebuilding the team, he’s rebuilding the ENTIRE organization. Whether some like or dislike individual trades he has made thus far, Bloom sure gets credit for not pussyfooting around.
Some on CT when he initially took over the POBO title last end of September felt he would move cautiously
He said he would make decisions for the long term vs. short term gratification .
Think if you had polled all of CT back on Sept. 27th ? when he took over if in his first 4 months , he would trade all 3 players with 'no trade ' clauses Gray, Contreras, and Arenado very few would have said YES all 3 will be gone prior to spring training and then add Donovan trade too.. a small few of us did see all these moves coming this offseason based on Bloom's comments to make changes .
Whether he will succeed long term will take a while to determine but certainly he has taken the bull by the horns . No bandaid approach .
It's a pedal to the medal approach. He said being cautious was not his plan .
remember after listening to his introductory press conference and his long term plan , I started a thread titled (paraphrsing ) Buckle up ! Bloom will clean house
Some replied :
'Bloom won't make major changes in personnel as that would be disrespectful to past POBO Mo. .. he will not poke the bear
He will make small changes but I don't expect him to do much this year.
He won't get the backing of DeWitt's to make the changes he is suggesting.
Don't see him making many changes .. I will believe it when I see it

Re: Bloom’s Rebuild Began In 2024
I often have to remind myself that Blooms job is much more that a roster rebuild. It is an organizational rebuild. My main criticism is that the roster rebuild seems very one sided toward pitching. I don’t see many of his moves improving offense or the significant void in outfielders that can field and HIT. There have been a couple of cheaper ( if there is such a thing) free agents on one year deals that could have helped. But I have to realize there has been and a lot on Blooms plate.Red7 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 21:50 pm Make no mistake, Bloom is not just rebuilding the team, he’s rebuilding the ENTIRE organization. These are some rose colored glasses. I live 2 hours from Tampa and most people here are acknowledging the current state of baseball will not allow the Rays to compete anymore. The big clubs are all doing pipeline well and they can retain theirs and yours. Small market teams wont competeRed7 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 21:50 pm Make no mistake, Bloom is not just rebuilding the team, he’s rebuilding the ENTIRE organization. What player/s do you expect to explode onto the scene NEXT SEASON that propels the Cards to the playoffs?Red7 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 21:50 pm Make no mistake, Bloom is not just rebuilding the team, he’s rebuilding the ENTIRE organization. If Gorman, Walker, Scott, Noot are all par or worse than they’ve been…..that’s half a new lineup you require in ‘27 just to field a team

Did you read the OP? It acknowledges that Bloom was a consultant in ‘04, hired to assess and analyze the state of the organization. That was his beginning on the job.CCard wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 23:33 pmThat would have been a trick since he wasn't employed by them as GM then.Red7 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 21:50 pm Make no mistake, Bloom is not just rebuilding the team, he’s rebuilding the ENTIRE organization.
