That would be a nice get would RT accept a trade to anywhere? Perhaps if he thinks a rebuild will be longer he wont want to waste his prime years on a losing team.Backesdraft wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 08:40 amUnder normal circumstances I’d agree with you. But, if MTL thinks RT is the missing piece they just might.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 08:36 amI dont think they will move both Hage and Reinbacher in the same deal
Not saying they do or don’t think he is the missing piece but if they think RT could help end the Canada cup drought then yeah, I bet they’d do just about anything to get him.

Re: Rumored ask for Thomas
If they trade Thomas this season they are moving a productive center on a very reasonable contract who is on the early end of his peak seasons. The risk is they doom themselves to be extended cellar dwellers never winning enough to be able to hang onto emerging talent.
I believe that is what a number of posters here really want. Armchair GMs, chase the next high draft pick.
Thomas isn't 30, not even close. If, huge if, they trade him they need to get back multiple quality young assets, including a young center with an extremely low risk of making everyone connected with Blues forget about Robert Thomas. For all the right reasons. The return has to fill holes in the emerging core.
Why a center? Do you see a generational center in this draft class?

Would you target Reinbacher? Even the MTL fanbase seems to be moving towards Reinbacher as a draft miss. I am a bit concerned Reinbacher will be what a lot of people here think Mailloux is. Not trying to start that debate here, just saying the tone on HF towards Reinbacher seems more negative than Mailloux last year this time.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 08:36 amI dont think they will move both Hage and Reinbacher in the same deal

If the rumor has any legs to it seems to me you would have to get a very good center back AND THEN "multiple quality young assets" on top of it.DawgDad wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 09:03 am If they trade Thomas this season they are moving a productive center on a very reasonable contract who is on the early end of his peak seasons. Otherwise, this is pretty much the beginning of what looks like a tear down.
And I don't buy that.

Sure, the more the merrier. Multiple is an unbounded plural with "quality" added as a condition.dhsux wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 10:47 amIf the rumor has any legs to it seems to me you would have to get a very good center back AND THEN "multiple quality young assets" on top of it.DawgDad wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 09:03 am If they trade Thomas this season they are moving a productive center on a very reasonable contract who is on the early end of his peak seasons. Heard on radio, and I can’t remember the exacts, but since became a top 6 player he’s top 10 in assists in that time. And he’s never had a a legit sniper on the wing.

Would it be better to wait until Thomas comes back and see if he can drive his value up a bit with improved play? He's got a team-friendly contract and a high ceiling...if they want to move on, I hate the idea of selling low.
