Penn State men’s hockey forward Gavin McKenna was charged following an alleged altercation in downtown State College late Saturday night. The incident occurred along the 100 block of South Pugh Street, with a report filed at 10:35 p.m.

State College police charged McKenna, 18, with felony aggravated assault that “attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference,” misdemeanor simple assault, and two summary offenses for disorderly conduct and harassment. If found guilty, McKenna faces up to 20 years in prison on the felony charge alone.

Realistically he'll plead down and get probation, but how do ankle monitors work on ice?

What I heard is that he broke a kid's jaw at a college bar on Jan 31. Don't know the circumstances of that. I doubt this will have any major impact on his draft position from what I have read.

The felony aspect will almost certainly be plead down. They are just stating the statutory maximum in the blurb above.

Wow.

Talk about tanking your draft stock.

Wonder if he’ll have to write a Mailloux letter to get drafted again.

Do you STILL take a chance on this kid? Like between the WJC attitude and beating the snot out of someone to the point of getting charged with a felony, like is the juice worth the squeeze just because he can shoot a puck?

The more I learn about this kid, the more I want to make him some else’s problem.

Not the most important detail but there is a world of difference between jail and prison. At least he can throw a punch i guess

Given rumors around his having an attitude of entitlement, I wonder how much some overzealous prosecutor might judt be trying to scare him with the felony charges.

Most 19 yr olds who break another kid's jaw dont get the book thrown at them...

This, and his attitude in general, certainly aren't going to help his draft stock but yea I'd be shocked if anything much comes out of this from a criminal perspective.

So hard to keep these kind of kids out of trouble, they are so ignorant with so much to lose and so many opportunities to lose it. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. (I know, I own one)

Its very difficult to keep them from being dumb[ash] while also providing the opportunities to make the most of their abilities.

They just don't have the mental capacity to deal with it yet.

I’m guessing the victim will walk away with a nice check and that will help make this go away.

Not going to judge it until the video is released.

But yeah if it was a cab driver then I hope he likes wearing red.
