Cameron Matthew Fowler
Do you think Anaheim will want him back? I am sure he’ll want to go back… What is the return? Do we get more or less for him?
Re: Cameron Matthew Fowler
I personally think we need Fowler for now
Re: Cameron Matthew Fowler
Anyone want totry to take a stab at the logic of the extension as far as timing? Why the rush to sign him? He played well when he was traded obviously, but he’s an older guy. It’s not like he’s going to get better and price himself out.
A real head scratcher to me.

Because we desperately need nhl d men, its 3 years. I'd still take the deal todayMiamiLaw wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 23:22 pm Anyone want totry to take a stab at the logic of the extension as far as timing? Re: Cameron Matthew Fowler
This guy was playing like an all star last spring. I still think he has that kind of game. Everyone looks worse than who they are this year. Blues management made a good decision based on the data they had at the time.
Re: Cameron Matthew Fowler
He was still signed for another year though so needing nhl d doesn’t really answer why there was a rush to sign him last summerskilles wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 00:06 amBecause we desperately need nhl d men, its 3 years. Re: Cameron Matthew Fowler
These early contracts always seem to backfire, and seems to be exclusive to those over 29.

Army likes to get the deals done early it seems for the players that are willing. Personally I think they need to get Fowler back with Parayko somehow.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 06:43 amHe was still signed for another year though so needing nhl d doesn’t really answer why there was a rush to sign him last summerskilles wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 00:06 amBecause we desperately need nhl d men, its 3 years. Re: Cameron Matthew Fowler
Need another for next couple of years and Fowler becomes the 3rd line LD while mentoring Jiricek.
Re: Cameron Matthew Fowler
In the past, it’s been more guys like Buch or Kyrou or (I think) Thomas he signed early. Guys that may improve or have additional productive years that could drive up their price. Fowler doesn’t really fit that mold. He didn’t really sign at a discount. I’ve got to think that even if he had a career normal year for him this year, that exact contract he signed would be acceptable to him and, if not, that amount of money could easily be used to find a similar level player.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 06:54 amArmy likes to get the deals done early it seems for the players that are willing. Fowler is an Army special, an old defenseman that makes a GM that can't find young defenseman look average.

Don’t know, I didn’t think his play would have dropped off this much. Defensively some games he looks lost. By next year they need to get him back with Parayko, figure out what type of D system they are using and stick with it. Get his trade value up. His and the Buch signing don’t look very good right now.

Parayko has been terrible too. He needs someone to help him. Fowler at this point isn’t the answer for thatBluesfan1978 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 07:06 am Don’t know, I didn’t think his play would have dropped off this much. Defensively some games he looks lost. Re: Cameron Matthew Fowler
Sure it does, we had/have very limited options so we jumped on the one we had ASAP before we lost it.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 06:43 amHe was still signed for another year though so needing nhl d doesn’t really answer why there was a rush to sign him last summerskilles wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 00:06 amBecause we desperately need nhl d men, its 3 years. Ain't nobody better than Fowler signing a contract like that to come play here. It was a smart move and continues to be a smart move.
I think people greatly over estimate our options.
Same thing applies to Buch, while better players might sign better deals somewhere that doesn't mean we could have signed them on those better deals.
These deals are at least a reasonable plan to not get in a hole we can't dig out of where our young players are getting away before we get over the hump leaving us in that indefinite rebuild situation like a lot of teams have fallen in to.

Maybe they can help each other.
My opinion is the goaltending has had a negative effect on the team’s confidence. However you look it the goalies as a whole have played well below league average this year. This team isn’t used to that.
Something else I was thinking about was Mailloux not playing any PK time has increased the PK time for the top 4. Without looking it up I’m sure Suter played as much PK time as any other D last year.
Re: Cameron Matthew Fowler
Well we only have 4 NHL d men, that makes things very difficult.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 07:20 amWellPierre McGuire wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 07:08 amParayko has been terrible too.
